| Last I remember, I believe Steamboy was the most expensive anime, with $20 million behind it. I'm a little hesitant on counting The Spirits Within as anime, because Wikipedia trusted sources identify it as an American film, despite the fact that the director and two out of three producers are Japanese and that it has an entry on MAL. |

If we don't count that one because, well, the budget was in dollars not Yen, Princess Kaguya is still the winner with I think 50 million USD (5 Billion Yen). |
