You know that awkward moment when you're about to cross an unmarked crosswalk and there's a car that arrived there first but they stop to let you cross? This is a regular occurrence to me, but today, something different happened.

So:
Me = about to cross
Car = arrived there first
Driver = blonde woman with sunglasses
Crosswalk = unmarked

Me: *gives driver a questioning look if I should go first*
Driver: *nods*
Me: *crosses, and halfway through smiles a little and gives an appreciative nod*
Me: *reaches the sidewalk and walks a few steps*
Driver: "Hey, do you want a ride?"
Me: *looks back at her, confused* "No, but thanks."
Driver: *accelerates car at full speed*

I know it's relatively normal for girls to be offered rides, so has this ever happened to you? Have you ever been offered a ride by stranger? In general, what do you think of strangers offering rides? Do you think it's creepy?

I would guess that 6.5 times out of 10, those people are pedophiles/rapists. Maybe some of them are just being nice, but I would never accept such an offer.

dunno I live in third world. Everyone asking for a ride is a thief or a kidnapper or a murderer. I'm one of them too.

Some with a flattering word,

Only been offered a ride as a teenager by an older woman. I'm not really sure what her intentions were but it was slightly creepy that she asked me so randomly. I was actually only walking a few blocks and told her then said "Thanks anyway". My father often preached to me about getting kidnapped by people offering rides so I've always been cautious to it. Though if I was needing to get somewhere in a hurry and someone offered to take me. I would probably allow them but not without making sure I could get out of the car in case they were serial killers and me their next victim.

Oh man, I have a friend who has had this happen. He got in the guys car, and nothing bad happened. He just drove him to where he needed to go. The closest for me would be back in my senior year off high school. The very same friend and I, were walking to school, in really heavy rain. Suddenly a car pulls up and asks if we need a ride, the woman claimed to be a teacher, and gave out the proper name of one. We didn't know the teacher, just the name, so we took a risk and trusted that it was her. Sure enough, we made it to school safely.

I never had this happen to me as a kid but when I was 18 I actually once had a neighbor offering me a ride to college. She was middle aged and was happy about her new car, worked in a hospital close to the college I was in. I accepted the ride and survived. :P

Since I'm not a girl, don't really go outside without a car (only if I have to) and tend to edit all kind of human presence out if I don't find it worthwhile enough to watch when I'm on foot, chances are very, very low that I'll ever be in this situation.

But if it were to happen, my reaction would be dependent on the person:
- if it were a guy or an too old/unattractive woman, I would most-likely just ignore him or her
- if it were someone I knew, I would just greet them
- if it were some cute girl, I would try to wake up.

While I don't offer rides rather because of my personality, I wouldn't reject if someone were to actively seek my help, which happened once with some pretty decent-looking girls from my class back in high school.

Sorry to disrupt your fantasies by possibly projecting yourself in my situation from that time, but nothing really happened. I didn't even talk much back then, but concentrated solely on driving (though I might have been reprimanded a little bit for speeding a bit during the 2 seconds red-light phase on a small junction before a bigger crossroad, where I would have had to wait twice if hadn't made it), only asking for directions, because apparently, they'd known a place where I could park for free behind a coffee shop.
Ended up letting them out there, turning around and driving to the nearest parking ramp, as I would have blocked other vehicles, while having them explain to the teacher why I had been late.

Maybe it could have developed to something with at least one of them, if they either weren't smokers or I wouldn't have been that opposed to having a smoker as a girlfriend.

You can try and read my lyrics off of this paper before I lay 'em
But you won't take the sting out these words before I say 'em
Cause ain't no way I'ma let you stop me from causing mayhem
When I say I'ma do something I do it,
I don't give a damn what you think,
I'm doing this for me, so fuck the world
Feed it beans, it's gassed up, if it thinks it's stopping me

Where the fuck is Kanye when you need him?
Snatch the mic from him, bitch I'mma let you finish in a minute
Yeah that rap was tight
But I'm 'bout to spit the greatest verse of all time
So you might wanna go back to the lab tonight and um
Scribble out them rhymes you were gonna spit
And start over from scratch and write new ones
But I'm afraid that it ain't gonna make no difference

Well, the closest I've gotten was a few years ago when a friend and I had to share a cab with this couple because we had stayed out way past midnight and all the transit had shut down.

They just came up and asked. We took them up on it without much thought. They ended up being pretty nice people.

I probably wouldn't get into someone else's car though. Especially alone.

It's happened to me -.-
I was waiting for my friend to pick me up and a guy drove up to the curb, I just assumed he was parking but he rolled down his window asked if I had anywhere to be and then tried to get me to go with him to his house, with "it'll only be a couple minutes" (lol minutes). I just kept saying no I'm waiting for my friend, because he couldn't take a hint. He only left when my friend arrived... it was creepy.
Oh and another time when I was really young, some woman tried to kidnap me.

Well yeah, I can't change the past anyway. If I hadn't been that opposed to it, I might have already been in a relationship, so it was just a short what-if scenario on how it would look like taking a girlfriend with her friends on a ride to the city.
