Does anyone else get there manga from the library? I usually do, but then sometimes people rip pages out and it's terrible.

Eh, sometimes there's Fruits Basket or something...usually it's crap like Naruto, One Piece or Dragonball.

There's really no selection, but the thought of pillaged manga makes me a bit sad. I buy used books all the time and they were always treated with respect.

my school library has mostly series with skipped volumes. plus, they never update it..

so buying then is more okay than reading it from a local library, since i know stupid elementary/middle school students will write on then and rip off pages. That is why they created a machine called "a copy machine". ><

Never actually. There is not much.. and if there is you can only find the Dutch translated ones. (most of those series I already own in English or I have friend who has them.)

My high school library had some good stuff, and people were considerate and didn't rip pages out, or anything of the sort.

My library in school only has literally 4 manga like Ranma ½ and some other older works of Rumiko Takahashi and that's about it.

I don't know about my local library, but I expect that they keep generic, shounen series on their shelves.

Just hearing about people ripping manga pages makes me disappointed...

If it is licensed and on my manga list, there's a 98% chance I got it from the library. If you've seen my list, you know that's a lot.

If there's something I want to read, I'll definitely borrow from the library. I prefer to read them in my hands rather than online, but I usually re-read weekly manga like Naruto and Bleach. The library I go to keeps closely to new releases of various manga so I guess I'm lucky.

yes, although that's partly cus mine has a decent selection with some good titles in it. I rented all of Buddha, Petshop of Horrors, and Eternal Sabbath from them for one and they're also getting in other good series like Parasyte. My library has them split by section with shojo and shonen near the teen books section and seinen and josei with more adult books, and a few thing like Gon in the younger kids section. I don't always agree with all of their placements, I'd put Petshop of Horrors in the more adult section, not the teens section and I'd put Hikaru no Go in the teens section instead of the little kids section.

My local library has a fair selection of manga, (they have Toward the Terra and Blade of the Immortal) but I die a little inside when I see missing pages and ripped covers.

I read them from the library all the time. Unfortunately, most of the titles I've read or am not interested in. Some of our titles are: To Terra, Ultra Maniac, Tsubasa, Hikaru no Go, Death Note, Rurouni Kenshin, Genshiken, and etc.

Yeah, sometimes, but now, I just buy manga. I hate stupid a-holes who rip up manga for the hell of it. Some can't even hold the manga right, which causes the book to have the pages open way out.

the local library near where I live carries some manga titles, like "Nana", "Tokyo Tribe 2", "Tsubasa" & "Battle Angel Alita. They have a good variety of genres there (btw, I haven't noticed any naruto or Bleach manga there ^^).

so far, I've had none of the problems of ripped pages, etc.

In my school library there's a section for manga. During my spares last year I'd try to pick some out and read them until the period was over, but there were only ones like Naruto, Bleach, MAR, etc. I prefer different genres than what the "norm" of manga has to offer. ' p '

I get manga from my library all the time! There's no way I could keep up with my reading just buying manga. And if there's a series I really really like from the library I'll buy it (eg. Death Note). Looking through the catalogue we have 50 series including Fruits Basket, Godchild, NANA, Tsubasa, xxxHolic, Vampire Knight, Death Note, One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist, Negima etc. But there's still a heap of series I buy because the library doesn't have it. Especially the horror series I like.

Oh, and the volumes can be kinda gross with food... But I survive.

I've been checking out manga from my library more recently. I usually like to buy my own manga but if it's a manga I'm unsure if I'll like and they carry it, I'll check it out. I just checked out Chibi Vampire today. I'm pretty squirmish when it comes to blood so I wanted to see how I could handle it first before I bought it, lol.

My public library has a bunch of them. It's the graphic novel section, but it's all mostly anime with a few Spider-Man and Batman comics here and there. Surprising, most of it is still in good condition, but I get lazy walking to the library just to get it. -_-

Yeah, I do read some mangas wich I borrow from my public library. But they don't have too many series so somtimes I borrow from the library in Gothenburg (like 30 minutes from where I live) where they have some more. But I read what I can and if I found one I really love I buy it instead ^^
If I should buy all the mangas I read (including the ones I don't like as much) and not borrow or read on the internet I would be totally broke all the time. xD

We've got quite a bit. And it doesn't have any of the mainstream ones, I think we have one volume of Naruto. The last time I took out manga from the library was ages ago though and I think it was the first four volumes of Pita Ten and some Tokyo Mew Mew.

I've "discovered" a bunch of series through my county library (I live in the same county as Kino_no_Tabi). After about 2.5 years, I'm still not done with all the selections they have. Here's most of the series they have:

There's plenty more, but that's all I can think of right now. And that doesn't count the American series they have.

If you go to your state library's homepage you can order books from any library in your state to be mailed to the one that's the most convenient for you. I used to do that all the time, but lately I've been too busy.

Maan, this is what makes me want to live somewhere else. The library closest to where I live only has Ranma 1/2, some One Piece and Dragon Ball (up to vol. 23). All in Norwegian, of course. And the translations suck (Japanese -> German -> Swedish -> Norwegian, if I'm not mistaken).

Well, if I don't have it, I would. I'm kinda happy.... they started getting manga in our school library. (Hip hip HOORAY! right when I'm about to graduate....) But there is no fantasy like I like. One was about Lanka, the dog sent to the moon, and the other one was about teenage issues. That one was pretty decent, actually, but still not something I'd normally read.

I've noticed that it's basically just the older manga. Not a lot of new stuff...Like.....Yeah, Naruto or One-Piece...Not any of the newer stuff. Not all of it is bad, just not a shiny new book (or series)..xDDD

There's quite a few at the local libraries that I go to. I remember my high school had Fruits Basket... that's all I can remember -__-

Actually, the public library that my cousin works at has the best selection where I live, it takes up a whole book shelf (like the ones you usually see at Borders). I don't think I've ever seen damaged manga, though I haven't really borrowed all that much since I was too lazy to look for ones I wanted to read.

That actually how I read a lot of the manga I have!

Power!! (the library had the entire series)
Nana (Read up to vol 9)
Mushishi (Read up to vol 7)
Princess Tutu (Both)
La Esperanca
Time Lag
A Time for Love Letters (both)

And a lot more. I usually look for number ones there, and if I like it, I read the rest online! 8D
