Angel Beats is my all-time favorite and it also influenced me the most. It made me realize that I want my life to mean something when it's over. It also got me into comedy/drama anime with a high school setting.

NANA

I could write paragraphs about this anime, but I won't for your sake.

Here's some high points:
-the plot and the characters are very realistic. Some of the characters clearly suffer from anxiety and depression.
-It doesn't idealize anything- not love, friendship, or fame. It shows the ups and downs of all relationships and life events.
-This is the only anime I've ever seen where I've laughed, cried, and simultaneously felt my heart warm and break at the same time.
-If you're looking for a great romance drama, check this anime out.

Shinsekai Yori

By a mile, the best at creating an atmosphere for the world.
Really liked how it makes you think who the real villains of the story were.

Rurouni Kenshin <-- even tho the quality is not top notch; Kenshin as a character is enough for me MY FAVORITE

Code Geass <-- after searching for a long time, I've watched that, very inspiring. It'll make you think about right&wrong; people&world, wars and etc.

His strength is the strength to live on bearing the pain of the sorrowful heart worse than death.

Hi! It's pretty hard to choose ONE favorite anime but if I had to choose one that would be definitely Gokukoku no Brynhildr.
A second anime would be Black Bullet.

Most influential-- Would definitely have to be Honey and Clover. Amazing lessons and great feels throughout while watching it. I can re-watch that series and get just as much out of it every time just being reminded as to why I was influenced so strongly by it originally.

Favorite would be Steins;Gate. I haven't seen your list but if you haven't seen it, you're in for a real treat. I'm still trying to find an anime that gets me as invested as that series did.

For me it's Mushishi. I kind of went on an anime hiatus for like 2 years and sort of became a manga > anime kind of person. Mushishi reinstilled that love for anime in me. I read the manga, but damn the anime was a completely different experience.

This is a very good way of finding great anime...

As for me, i already like the guy who mentioned NANA, which is simply the best romance with mature story...

Honey and Clover, because i can really relate myself to one of the character like never before....

Rainbow, the anime that makes me think the director wants to slap me in the face by showing a story that no such a thing as a perfect happy ending in a realistic world (It depressed me few days at one of the char's story)

Those 3 are some of anime that make me prefer realistic and mature stories

In terms of lifestyle, Uchuu Kyoudai was very influential. It helped me get my butt out of my seat and start doing something.

In just anime though, Code Geass was probably the most influential, since I think it was after I watched CG that I realized how fucking amazing anime is.

Angel Beats; because:
- The first anime made me cry like a baby,
- Each character has a side that you can find similar,
- Made me laugh more than any other anime,
- Taught me to be a more useful person to the ones I love.

Most influential:
Macross (via Robotech)-the first 80s series I really saw that made me fall in love with 80s anime
Outlaw Star-first anime I saw knowing it was anime (I didn't know Pokemon and Digimon were as a kid)
Princess Tutu-first thing to make me realize there is awesome shojo, I was just trying out popular garbage

Favorite:
Macross, Outlaw Star, Princess Tutu, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Digimon Adventure (soft spot on this one), Metropolis, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Cromartie High School, RahXephon, Steins;Gate, Simoun
And not anime, but Avatar: The Last Airbender needs a mention
