To kick up more dust let's have a "poll". What kind of horror do you find satisfy your tastes?

I myself don't really care for slasher or gore or shock crap, but a good "mind fuck" is pretty awesome. I also like supernatural elements, and lots of suspense and series where the characters are completely helpless. Maybe it's my love of the Lovecraftian style, but I also love it when one or more people go insane.

Now you guys. What do you like?
Gore hounds? Thriller junkies? What's your particular style?

Well, as for Me, I mostly indulge myself into classical Horror genere, but also adore fresh and creative approach to the subject that a vaguely called "mindfuck" manga has to offer. Alas, my love for a good storyline puts guys like Shintaro Kago or Suehiro Maruo on the second place to junji Ito and alike.

As for accompanying generes, I do like a drop of psychokillers, like Ichi and characters from MPD Psycho / Nightmare Detective.

Apart from manga, I like korean horrors, especially for their intense colouring and unconventional storyline ("A tale of Two Sisters", "Dead Friend"), japanese ghost-flicks (One missed Call, Dark Water, Ju-On (TV), Kairo, Marebito, Noroi: The curse, etc), japanese extreme movie genere, such as "Kuchu Teien" (hanging garden) and all good examples like Tetsuo: The Ironman, Bullet Ballet, Tokyo Fist, all Miike Takashi / Shinya Tsukamoto films.

Western horror is also eadible for me, though I prefere classic things from 60's-?90's, and hate remakes with all repulsive power I can gather.

Tetsuo: The Ironman is a really great movie. Though speaking of western horror, I'm really happy to see Sam Raimi working on a horror film. I'm suddenly reminded of the "Evil Dead" days. Hopefully this will be good and bring back some memories. ( I was a horror junkie when I was a kid XD )

Well, same as myself. I loved EvilDead (1, not 1-remake), but the idea of Sam re-making his two movies several times in last 10 years is quite disturbing, actually. Even though, I'm looking forward to his "Drag me to hell" film. From what info I dug up, it looks quite promissing. ^^

Also, if You were into western horror sime time ago... ever watched the Hellriser series? :3

I was a big Hellraiser fan as a kid. I used to pretend my rubiks cube was the puzzle box. The newer movies seem so lame ( especially the one with the "Deaders" ). But I remember watching them all the time. After this I got to really like Clive Barker stuff. His newer books and stories not so much though.

Other horror films I loved as a kid were:
The Howling ( lol werewolves )
The Shining
Killer Clowns from Outer Space ( kids said "It" did it for them, in my case it was this film and the shadow puppet scene where he does a T-rex shadow puppet and it eats an old man )
Puppetmaster
Phantasm
Dellamorte Dellmore ( Cemetary Man in the US )
The Blob
The People Under the Stairs
Evil Dead
Poltergeist
and lots I really can't remember.

I even watched the campy blaxploitation film "Blacula". Which was hilarious.

Trying to branch out into more foreign horror, I'll take campy films too XD

Ah, good to see another Lovecraft fan. ^^
I like very psychological horror, where things get insane and out of control but not necessarily with the help of violence and gore (although sometimes violence is useful to convey a sense of horror, of course). I like interesting and well written characters that face interesting and well written situations.

I like "mind fuck" also, and although it's not exactly horror, stories that take things to the extreme and explore taboo subjects are also interesting. I like to finish reading something and feel severely disturbed and scarred. xD

Same here. The stuff that gets into your head --- that's what I go for in a horror, not the shock & awe types that seem so popular nowadays.

I enjoy psychological thrillers, along with ghost stories, or anything that is described as the unknown.

Psychological and/or supernatural thrillers are the best. I want lots of psychotic, insane, deranged characters and a compelling, creepy, unique plot.
I do want some blood in my movies/manga/anime, and I don't mind gore, slasher and splatter (not too extreme though), but only if they're supported with a good story, or else the violence is pointless and gratuitous.
I can't stand torture, guro, and sadistic stuff.
