So Air has finally been licensed according to ANN. By ADV. Along with the movie. Maybe if this goes well Kanon will get picked up next?

On the up side, there's still several months to go before Air is released on DVD whereas Haruhi begins its run next month. So you'll have some time to plan out the purchases. But yeah, I'm in the same boat buying them both.

...even a saint needs a soldier to do the dirty work.

I am happy and sad at the same time. Like Kei said, the wallet is gonna be crying. Too many releases this year. Haruhi, Honey & Clover, Familiar of Zero, Mushishi and now Air.

haha, at every other forum I've been to, licensing has been considered a bad thing...lol. It's nice to have a change =P
I love air, but I don't think I'm gonna buy it.

Wow Air! Get out! I remember after I first saw Air when it just finished airing and I thought to myself that this anime would never be licensed. I'm praying for a hi-def version (i.e. Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, although preferably Blu-Ray since it's outselling HD-DVD by 70% to 30% respectively) of Air to be released or is that too much to ask since we all know how gorgeous Air is.

P.S. I'm so curious to see how they butcher that final scene in episode twelve, since nobody can match Tomoko Kawakami for these type of scenes!

I'm not a fan of bastardization ahem, I mean licensing, but if they release hi-def versions then I'm all for it.

But license means that you have to go to annoying torrent sites to get the downloads when you can't buy the dvds ):

It is easy to get them when the dvd's are out. There will be a few groups to rip them. But i really dont condone such practices. Support the anime industry so we get more awesome licenses, a lot of dubs these days are much better than what they used to be.

I only really get pee'd off at licensing when it happens before the series has finished in Japan (example: deathnote), but once the series is finished im cool for it, cause then even thou i cant get them now, i can buy the dvd's to add to my collection and look cool and admire XD, instead of just having them burnt onto a cd -.-'...

Seriously. Here and ANN have been the only places I've found that don't outright decry all dubs' very existence.

I own both discs that are currently out. Man, it's as awesome as I remembered the sub to be...and the voices are great in English.

I gave Air a solid 10, simply because it deserves it. XD

My first impression of the site is that they seem to act more like a review site than a community. Suppose I'll register and see how things develop. Again, thanks :D

As a long-standing member, I avow they have one of, if not the deepest appreciation for the R1 industry more than any other independent anime website. Thus why it's frequented happily but studio reps and voice actors methinks.

Plus it's nice to be in a place where people aren't constantly asking who's the hottest anime chick every single week.

Just watched the movie, while not as good as the series i'm still on the verge of letting a tear loose. I blame the music.

The dub of this blew me away. I didn't think they'd pull it off, but they did.

My appreciation for the R1 industry skyrocketed after watching this and Haruhi dubbed (No, screw your God Knows, it's 2 minutes, they tried to keep the language consistent, the rest of the dub was awesome, I could go on.). I can't wait for Kanon now.

I finished watching the dub a couple days ago and I have to say I agree with SirthOsiris 100%. It felt like I was watching it for the first time again.

Makes me wonder how dub-haters can honestly say Americans have no emotion. It was so thick in AIR you could cut it with a knife. Heh.

HA!! So thick in Air you can cut with a knife? How about needing a chef's knife? I found this little story on AnimeonDVD. Someone went to a showing of the third DVD. Here's what the guy said:

"During the comments, Vic said he started bawling during the showing at the theater and had to text to Monica Rial:

"(Monica) I love you. I'm bawling."

To which Monica wrote back, "It's okay. I'm still alive...Gao""

I got 3 and 4 on order and sent. I cannot wait, for 3 has one of my favorite scenes ever, which I consider the true end to the series.

The dub really is great. Deffinatly one of the best dubs I've ever watched/heard. As far as the name "Sora" being dubbed to "Sky", that was intentional because it has a symbolic meaning. If the hadn't changed it, then the non-Japanese speaking anime crowd wouldn't have known what it meant, and the symbolism would have been lost. While I agree that Sora sounds better as a name than Sky, I'm o.k. with the change knowing that the symbolism will come off better that way.

I bought the DVD's. Most of the dubbed voices ranged from tolerable to decent, but Misuzu reminded me of Sailor Moon and made me cringe. Not that her Japanese voice was much better, in my opinion, but I definitely prefer the sub.
