| So.. IN PSYCHOLOGY (Most of my topics come from thinking in class) we were learning different methods to conquering fear, the two most basic and most common being Exposure and Flooding. Exposure is being exposed to small amount and getting habituated with it so you can move up, and is a slow way of getting rid of a phobia Examples A fear of snakes would be cured by being exposed to one baby snake and then moving your way up sizes of snakes A fear of heights would be cured by going to the top of a house, and then a bigger building and constantly making your way up Flooding is being exposed to the most extreme to set a new standard and is a fast way of getting rid of a phobia Examples A fear of snakes would be cured by being exposed to an Andaconda or Reticulated Python and even though you are scared of those, smaller snakes would not compare. A fear of heights would be going to a tourist attraction tower and standing on the "See Through" panels and again, even if you were scared of it, being ontop of an office building isn't as bad. Which is your preferred way? Exposure or Flooding? Or do you prefer to just avoid your fear? |

| I had some fears as a kid, and I just went ballz deep and 'flooded' them. I was scared of snakes: My neighbour had a python. I would just force myself to go there every other day to play with said snake. After a while I started liking the beasty to the point I actually was very sad when it died. Now? I am fearless. |

| If I were afraid of snakes/insects/clowns/whatever, I think I could live with that. I imagine fear of heights can be inconvenient though, so I'd try to conquer it, probably with flooding, because I'm impatient. As for my actual fears... Most of them are rational and not really something you would want to conquer with these methods. For example I fear that I'm going to end up homeless. It seems more probable every day, but all I can do is work hard not to let it happen. |

| i deal with my fears by being open to them. if you are totally open to fear in the moment and allow it to really run its course rather than avoid it, you will be dealing with that fear, and see that it is actually nothing to worry about.
