Admit it, he is just everything that Gon is not. Togashi could have kept the same age and Ging would still be better.

Look at it this way, with Ging as the main character we wouldn't have to see that little fucking faggot GON scream when things don't go his away and blindly slamming his fist into everything like a fucking drunk chimpanzee.

Except that Ging is too perfect (from what we've seen.) It's much more boring to watch something with a flawless protagonist rather than a flawed protagonist.

Gon's naïve and selfishness are the qualities that makes him a fine Shounen lead.
I'm a douche. Deal with it.

There would have been no growth. It wouldn't work as a shonen. Yes he's an awesome character but the reason he's awesome is because he's a veteran of the Hunter x Hunter universe and Gon is not. We have to see Gon build up from a wild kid looking for his dad to a seasoned hunter trying to stand shoulder to shoulder with his father one of the greatest Hunters in that world. I think that makes for a far more interesting story. One thing I will say is that when I started watching Hunter x Hunter I had expected Kurapika/Leorio to be more relevant in the story. They do appear in several arcs but there isn't that relationship that Gon has with Killua, who is my least favorite character of the four.

I think people hate Kirito for other reasons.....I could not get pass 10 episodes of that show. Its one of the most dull and poorly written stories I have watched in ages. It appeals to people for all the wrong reasons, and Kirito in my opinion is an amalgamation of everything that is wrong with Shonen lead characters. Since the Bishonen craze started in the 90s with Gundam.

Ging is unlikable imo. He's so self centred but happy with himself. At least Gon is a apologist for his selfishness.

Ging kind of annoys me haha. He's just too damn perfect, every time his name comes up it's always about his triumphs and victories and all that shit. But we never actually get to see him do any of this.

I admit that it would be interesting to follow an intellectual and badass person beating up monsters and discovering ruins(like Keaton minus the monsters) but I wouldn't like Ging as the main. Like everyone else says, he's too perfect and that wouldn't be interesting.

And when you do meet him, there is one thing that comes across:

Thus, I don't care for him too much. :P

I do admit, though, that I really want to see him fight.

Kirito spends 20+ hours of the day in his bedroom even when he's not being forced to play SAO...

You just called him perfect?

No Ging is not that perfect but he does kind of remind me of Yusuke from YYH though.

And no Kirito is not perfect LOL hellno.

Gon is arguably one of the best main characters in on going shounens right now. I don't see the problem with him. If you don't like how he is in the anime then read the manga or stop watching this series. I think Gon is a good protagonist.

Then we'd have another Yusuke
I wish we get to see more of him or have an arc focused on him or something

No... you have no idea what you're talking about.

Gon drives the theme - growth and discovery, whereas Ging is a pioneer and innovator.

even his Author says so

Q18: Why are Kirito and Haruyuki so completely and utterly different?

KAWAHARA: It could be that I wrote Sword Art Online first. Kirito is such a perfect character, almost too perfect. I decided with my second work to go with a character that is completely opposite of Kirito. After working on the title for a while, I’m starting to feel that Haruyuki would become a cooler main character from his growth. I would love to see an animated version where the two would cross swords.

Kirito was cute in a little boy way, but perfect? I don't understand.

Also, I think the author means perfect in the sense that he didn't appear to have many character flaws, like selfishness, vanity, greed etc

I don't think it would have been an interesting story to watch Ging become a Hunter. He was the one applicant of his pool to pass. He's a legend in the Hunter world and one of the most powerful Nen users.

... doesn't it seem like his entire story is one easy climb to the top? Where's the fun in knowing Ging is going to effortlessly come out on top? Gon is /never/ the most powerful fighter. He wins all of his fights with wit, instinct, and luck. It's a good story because we see how Gon & Co. struggle to overcome what lies in front of them. The story is in the growth of the characters.

And I like Gon, too. So...

Watching Gon's growth and his relation with Killua are way more interesting than seeing Ging as main character
If I have to pick someone other than Gon as a main protagonist, I think Killua is my choice

I don't know how some people here think that Kirito is perfect... Maybe perfect and overpowered as a player, but he has many weaknesses as a human

Being perfect as a player is all he needs anyway, and as for being a perfect human, all the ladies seem to think so.

Anyway, Gon is the perfect main character for this series.

Ging is one of my favorite characters, because, I personally can relate with him :P so, I can understand his feelings. rofl.
But nah, I like Gon better as a character. That kid's abysmal. Togashi's characterization for this kid is unforeseeable (IMO to me). Plus, he's what attracted me to watch HxH in the first place. I didn't give a damn about that show when I was a kid, and many of my friends used to love it (1999 version (?)) because of Killua and Kurapika. But I instantly liked Gon, and I was kind of in the same boat as Killua when I first encountered the kid. lmao. He kind of interested me. There was just some kind of mystery about him. He's supposed to be this open book but he's not. Anywho, I've never been attracted to a show before primarily because of its protagonist, until HxH...So that's saying a lot.

Yeah, This. Nobody can beat Gon as the main character tbh.
