So I'm deciding to watch Aria the Origination and by looks of it, it's average rating is 8.81.

Seems like a good anime and wanted to know the opinions of other people that have watched it. Like was it good ? genre ? storyline ? concept ? What did you feel or thought of it while watching or completing.

Apparently it's depressing. But yeah looks promising since it's one of the top anime 'series'. "Top anime: 22 Aria the Origination"
There are 3 season's that I know of:

Aria the Animation
Aria the Natural
Aria the Orgination

Hope to hear your opinion and what you thought of the anime. (scored by 6853 users).

Origination is a continuation of the first two seasons (Animation, Natural). The characters are introduced and developed over those first two seasons, and honestly, there are a lot of personal and relationship changes that culminate there that you won't understand unless you watch the first two.

I love the series. But unless you watch the first two seasons you won't get the third. Also, the OVA (Arietta) set between the second and third season is rather important for setting the tone of the third season.

Now, as for the specifics-
It's a slice-of-life series about three girls that want to become Undines (the term for people who row gondoliers). They get together and have wonderful adventures in the city. A lot of the characters are recurring, which means that a lot of relationships build over the course of the series. It's about them coming to know more about the city and how they share it with those that they love. It also has them learning more about themselves, and growing and changing over the series.

I think that it's done very well. It's a slow series - you don't watch it for action - but the development of these things is very steady throughout the series. The episodes about them learning about the city are solidly sprinkled with them learning to row (not as boring as it sounds) and navigating the streets. Most of the time they're happening at the same time.

The first two seasons have the characters and their relationships developing and changing - the third is about them moving on to the next stage. It's not depressing, but it is bittersweet.

If you'd like something more in-depth, I'd actually recommend checking out THEM Anime Review's reviews of all the seasons.

Wahahaha !! Thank you so much for that !!
It sound's very good with a controlled storyline just the way I like it. I'll definitely start the watching the first season and then make my way towards the third. Really excited after hearing what you said.

What Sweetpea said.
Brilliant, relaxing slice of life stuff with a touch of wonders here and there. And yea, almost entirely pointless to watch this before the first two.

Slow but necessary, and towards Aria the Origination it picks up the pace, and prepares itself for a magnificent conclusion. Aria the animation is more or less to establish the characters and slightly about the setting while Natural is more towards delving deeper into the setting Aqua. This is all to set the stage for Origination, everything is prepared and I believe Origination did a magnificent job in using the foundation set by the previous two seasons to provide a conclusion like it did.

Maybe someone who watched Animation and dropped it, however they may be someone who watched through all 39 episodes and thought Origination did a horrible job. Somehow....
Although I can see how the aria series is not for everyone because with the anime itself you need to have quite a bit of patience.

It's slow, yea, but it's a chillaxing series after all, going too quick would defeat the purpose.

They all moved on and so are we. And I think you should watch the first two seasons first because that is where much of the development and introductions takes place. Origination is just the cruel reality the characters will face so they can live their lives.

So watching it at a slow pace too shouldn't be a problem too right?
I will start watching it after some psychological/thriller anime then since it's a relaxing anime.
Looking forward to it.

basically don't do what the guy above did and watch only the origination. Follow what everybody else does and follow the order, since it's very important to do so.

So i watched the whole aria series...
To everyone who want to watch it becouse its high position - aria dont deserve for place in top 30.
It's good to watch as lullaby to sleep but it's not masterpiece.
Not popular things like this get high cuz ppl who would usualy rate this lower decide to dont watch it cause it's too long and too boring, if they would aria would lose 100-200 places in ranking.

I liked it (7/10) but I decisively disagree with rank.

It is clearly a genre that doesn't interest you. It is also a genre that doesn't interest those that would find ARIA "too long and too boring", which is why they haven't watched it. Of course people that don't like the relaxed pacing of the series' will not rate it, that's why they stick with things that are more suited to their short attention spans.

People that do not understand what this anime is trying to do shouldn't watch it, simple as that.

if you're going to dismiss its high rating and all the praise, you need to elaborate.

It's still the series with one of the best ending (if not the best since I haven't saw any episode ending rivaling this one in MAL episode scoring) in the entire animation history, according to MAL statistics. That alone and the claim of "magical experience" should encourage you to watch, although of course it's not a magic that works on everyone (but it works on a lot of people).

Well, slice of life is generally boring to people who enjoy fantasy, shounen or action instead.

Exactly. What people don't realize is that the purpose of the entire Aria series is to detail a heartwarming story and magical journey through atmosphere, serene art, calming music, and character development. In other words, it's simple and beautiful.

Like most Slice of life anime id recommend limiting yourself to 1 or 2 episodes a day. That being said the final season of Aria is the pinnacle of slice of life anime. Aesthetics, sound, character development, emotional attachment are all amazing.

I didn't have high hopes for it at first especially for the first two seasons the Animation and the Natural but once everyone finishes the complete series then you'll have a favorite season.

Personally the Origination hands down was my favorite.

Aside from that, it's somewhat episodic but it's meant to be watched in order since things progress much more in the Animation. As for the Natural it's basically an introduction of the main characters and the world of Aqua.

It's slow paced yet soothing. Peaceful and easy to watch before you go to sleep or when you wake up.

It became my #1 anime after I finished it today and I suggest watching it. I don't recommend marathoning it unless you are those type of people. It might be everyone's genre but if you're human then I'm certain that the Origination might try to win it for you. The first 2 seasons could have been better but Origination closes it up for you and has probably the best ending to an anime I've seen to date.
Rest in beats.

Some people saying ARIA is not too great.... lol... must be the new generation.

ARIA IS THE BEST ANIME SLICE OF LIFE EVER CREATED SO FAR

hope that is clear. It's not only my opinion, it's everyone who actually watched it for the HEALING fix and how positive is, how well done is, how it goes sooooo far away from today's cliche anime.

It surely doesn't deserve such high ranking. Because the score is given by majority, I'm pretty sure our majority doesn't want it. Only people who are into sweety cutey anime would rate it 10. Result in we are inspired by score and watch it later to be disappointed.

Easily one of the best episodic and slice of life anime of all time.

But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

http://www.classzone.com/books/lnetwork_gr08/page_build.cfm?content=analyz_media&ch=30

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

Mother of all necros..

OT: It's very polarizing since it has a pretty distinct target demographic. As far as slow-paced, episodic slice of life anime goes then Aria the Origination is essentially the pinnacle of it. But that genre is very niche to begin with so a lot of people won't be able to appreciate it all that much regardless. There is very little ever happening in it so it's not so strange that many people find it boring

Personally I thought the first two season were pretty dull and snoozeworthy, but Origination has some really emotional scenes in it as it approaches its climax so it definitely stands out from its predecessors. As for whether it was worth the time investment however is debatable

I can say this however; if you have a problem with the series' slow pacing then definitely try reading the manga instead. It took me over a year to watch all three seasons of the anime, but I read the entire manga in just one day, and I liked it a lot more in that format. Because in the manga you can adjust the pacing yourself by reading at whatever speed you want to rather than having the series decide for you like it does in the anime

Well the first 2 episodes were a little sappy, so the No Sappy Lines Allowed rule should have been in full force. Still, I hope that the rest of the series can be just a little more entertaining. Aria was always such a tame series anyway with some funny moments at times, just a feel good series actually.
