My mom knows. She took me to anime conventions when I was fifteen.

I'm more troubled by the fact at my mother told me that she went on my Tumblr. Now THAT'S something to be afraid of.

Well anyway in terms of my family there is really only my mum and sister, my sister watches anime with me the vast majority of the time.

Our mum knows about it and doesn't think anything about it, she sees it basically as just another "genre" of TV shows.

My parents already know I like anime, and they are okay with it.

I don't know about the emphasis on the word love though, I don't consider myself to be obsessed like some people and I have a variety of other interests so there's no reason for my parents to be concerned. To them me watching anime is the same as some other person watching Family Guy.

I told my mother that I have an interest in anime & she seemed to not really care.I'm sure that's because she trust me.
Anyway,it's not like I love anime.May love certain anime series or anime characters or aspects about anime, but I don't love the entire medium known as anime.
My Devianart

Oh & Space Brothers is still the best anime ever,in my opinion.Even when competing with Attack on Titan.

They will never find out. This is my secret pleasure.

From childhood experiences, I can safely assume that they're generally against it.

If they ever found out, at the very least, I'd say goodbye to funding for any electronic devices, PC parts, HDDs, etc. if they know that's what I use them for.
At worst, they may even stop paying for my studies since:
* I'm "not committed to my career"
* I'm "wasting my time on useless crap"
* I'm "setting a bad example for my younger brother"
(just speculating here, but these are all things that they're likely to say.)

At the moment, my brother drains more of my parents' money than me, so it's usually no questions asked when I want something and I'd like to keep it that way.
As long as I can maintain my appearance as "the good child," they won't pry further into my personal life.

Haha i love that this is some sort of forbidden pleasure for some people.

I can see why this is an issue for some people but after awhile you come to realize what your parents think of you pretty much means f-all.

Yeah, They're very strict, but while they're taking care of me financially, I can't complain.
Since their attention is currently focussed on my brother, I can usually get away with whatever I want by keeping a low profile, so it's not too bad.

When I first started watching anime in japanese, which was so many years ago. I just put the dvds I got from my friends into the drive, put the volume up, and started watching.

If they did ask, then I forgot. But they never seemed to care.

They don't even seem to care after I've been a NEET for +2 years.

MOM: "There's plenty people in this area who drink, steal and do drug etc, etc. Its a good thing he stays inside all day and watch that anime stuff."

Those aren't the exact words, it changes from time to time. But I've heard countless variations throughout all the years already.

I openly share my love for anime with my parents. They're just glad I'm not on drugs, because instead, I just sit in front of my computer and watch 14 hours of anime per day lol (ok that's a tad bit stretched). On the days when I walk around and mumble some japanese under my breath, that's when their a little bit concerned. >.<"

I grew up hogging the television to watch pokemon/digimon/yu-gi-oh every weekend morning, it didn't bother my parents one bit. I'm proud of my childhood. Maybe it's just the culture here in Asian countries, it's perfectly fine to have an interest in anime/manga.

What's wrong with watching anime? I'm a 18-year old boy, and one of my hobbies are watching anime, unless you're watching some sort of hentai, it shouldn't be a problem for any of your family members to know - for me, anime is just like a sport for people that love sports. :)

My whole family knows I watch anime, because they occasionally see me watching it and I ask for DVDs for Christmas and stuff like that. However, I try not to talk about it too much because my sister and mom don't get it and don't want to, and my dad HATES Japanese people and watches WWII footage at least once a week. In his mind, Pearl Harbor just happened yesterday. If he sees me watching anime and says anything, I just say, "Even if I explained it to you, you wouldn't understand."

My parents are very nice and all, but I have absolutely nothing in common with them, so we don't really talk about hobbies or anything. Honestly, no one in my family even has any hobbies that they love. Lots of work.

I would prefer to hide my love of Japanese music from them, and I can only imagine what they'd think of eroge and hentai. There would just be no point in telling them, and they'd literally send me to a psychiatrist if I did.

...It's a miracle I turned out to be so open-minded.

She has seen a few Ghibli films and enjoyed a few here and there.
But she really doesn't give a damn if I read manga or watch anime as long as I don't overdue myself by watching non-stop or reading 24/7, she's fine with it.

Anime is a form of entertainment. If liking it is wrong, then the same can be said about liking cartoons, or just about any show for that matter.

If your parents actually disapprove of it, then they have a problem of their own to deal with.

Anime shows are about the only kind of shows I know of that take themselves seriously most of the time. Everything on TV that's story-driven looks pretty shallow in comparison. To hate anime because it's anime is dumb.
Some parts of this post may be exaggerated.

My mother finds it childish and every time I spend my money on anime/manga stuff she says it's a waste of money.

One time I bought myself the box set of Death Note because it was £30 and she said it was a waste of money. The next time I went to the same store I noticed that it was on sale for £60.

Waste of money, eh?

They really don't care.
My father is more ignorant about it. Some minor teasing, but he really doesn't care what I do as long as I like doing it.
My mother is more open about it. She even watched Death Note with me some years ago (back then I wasn't into anime much though) and she really liked it. I sometimes even show her some anime songs/OPs/EDs and she admitted that some of them are not bad.

I don't really think it's something that should be hidden. A good parent accepts their children's hobbies whatever it is, and I mean it's not like doing drugs and sh1t like that.

I'm as proud as they can be, so everyone whom I'm acquainted with already knows that I watch anime and read manga. If they really give so much of a shit that they would look down on me, they have too many problems of their own to care about little hobbies like watching anime. I could care less if they're in my life or not, and if they're not in my life, they're missing out, frankly. I look down at the world, so no one can judge me for such a trivial thing.

Edit - At first I thought it said family and friends... well, I've always enjoyed anime, and my parents have known for a long time. My mom is pretty cool. Back in the day, she would even sit down with me and watch some episodes of Pokemon, Digimon and DBZ

As long as they don't find out I watch ecchi/hentai (or even worse; lolicon) I'm fine.

My mom, I don't know about here; either she doesn't care or she pretends she doesn't care while she finds it horrible
My dad on the other hands supports me and is interested in it (or most likely interested in all those moe chicks)...if he where born in my generation there would be a pretty good chance he would watch it as well
(and my sister for some reason she thinks I hate Japan)
