Well, there is Legend of Black Heaven. It doesn't have as much incoherent screaming, but I think it's a fun song, even though the animation in the opening does not reflect how the series actually looks ...

Akagi ED1, by Maximum the Hormone (they did Death Note OP2)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWWmAZph-v0

it's not pure metal though, only a mix of many genres. quite good song though.

Since metal is a bit hard to define and not always pure, some of these are going to be debatable. Also, many of them change openings partway through and lose their metallic goodness.

Darker than BLACK (if not metal then at least very hard rock... Abingdon Boys School FTW)
Kaiji (metalpunk)
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (Ohtsuki Kenhi is THE MAN)
Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (again, Ohtsuki is THE MAN)
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (more like J-pop, to be honest... not my favorite OP)
Bleach (OP 3, Ichirin no Hana was, at least)
Soul Eater (not sure how to classify it, but definite metal influences. By the guy who heads Abingdon Boys School.)
D.Gray-man (also Abingdon Boys School)
Genshiken (not quite metal, but could be argued as such; song is awesome, anyway)
Black Lagoon (again, not really "metal," but definite influences)

I also feel like mentioning NHK ni Youkoso! because, though its OP is most definitely not metal, the first ED is another Ohtsuki Kenji work of wonder.

And FLCL (aka Furi Kuri/Fooly Cooly)... though the openings aren't metal (they change each episode buy are closer to punk), the series music as a whole is extremely headbangingly wonderful.

Hope some of these help!

Hard to define metal, I agree with ^

But uhm, maybe the OPs/EDs by ACID for Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou: Tou and Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou: Tou Dai Ni Maku.

Oh, that's a tough one. Not much metal in anime. I would say the closest you'll get may be the Darker than Black OP and the Trigun OP (Zeppelin-inspired). Also, this is not metal, just rock, but you must hear the ED to Gankutsuou.

What did they do to it!?!?!?!!! D:
The original Hellsing OP was excellent... all jazzy and classy. Heck, the only way that Hellsing Ultimate fails is that it doesn't have the original music. But to see something like this... oh Germany, I have lost a bit of respect.

Speaking of Germany..........Blassreiter's OP is pretty metal-ish :)

Also, Mnemosyne's OP/ED are pretty damn rockin

You've come a long way, baby.

Tokyo Majin..I think. It was quite a long time ago since I last watched that anime but I can recall some pretty hardcore openings and endings.

Besides Detroit Metal City, the only ones I can think of that even resemble metal would be Watamote, Deadman Wonderland, Black Lagoon and Kurozuka.

There's surprisingly a lot! But it sounds like people are being pretty loose with the term "metal" so I'll name all the heavy ones I can think of.

Detroit Metal City
Watamote
Prison School
Parasyte
Free! (maybe? loose, lol)

Rin Daughters of Mnemosyne has Galneryus as the opening AND closing theme.

One of the seasons of Bleach has High and Mighty Color as the opening...not exactly metal but it has distorted guitar and some screamed vocals.

Mazinkaiser SKL has Loudness as the opening theme. It's a film though, so you only hear it once

Dragon Ball Z Resurrection F has Maximum the Hormone in the movie (the band that did the second Death Note opening) but I believe the opening is still the typical DBZ theme (though, a slightly more guitar-driven version if I remember correctly)
