I don't give a darn. I just watch whatever interests me. Demographics just give me a vague idea of what to expect, and even then there are several series that don't appear to fit their demographic. |

And saying Romance is 4girls is also a bad stereotype which is like saying only girls can fall in love. mezzoguitar said: I don't give a darn. I just watch whatever interests me. You two, in your own ways are getting close to what this thread is really about and that is looking at perceptions of what is for "girls" and what is for "guys." I'm seeing a lot of "universality" and people who aren't buying into gender roles. But I also see a lot of girls preferring "girly stuff" and guys viewing it with disdain. It also seems that girls are far more likely to watch "guy shows than the other way around. I am not extending any kind of judgement on this. It is just very interesting to observe. I will again chant what seems to have become my MAL mantra, "You like what you like, and that's o.k." I sincerely hope the comments and contributions continue. |

I love Ouran High School Host Club. I've tried out a few other Shoujo, but never really found another one I've really liked. It's strange how the parody shoujo is the one with best best relationships and most developed characters. |

I'm a guy, and I don't care if it's for girls or for guys, I'm always looking at the story, if a good story, then I don't mind watching it. But to stay on topic, I don't really know what counts for girls, but lets' try: - True Tears (I love romantic anime and I don't think it's for girls, but a good way to post this so anyone else would watch ;) ) - CardCaptor Sakura (watched when was young) - Chihayafuru (Some people wrote it, so I'll write it too) That's all I think :P |

I am not motivated enough to give any detailed lists, but I love shoujo and josei manga/anime. From the old marvels of nippon and toei, the world masterpiece theater anime, the Rose of versailles, Oniisama e and the rest of the Year 24 group's manga creations and the Glass mask to Banana Fish in the 80s to hundreds of modern shoujo and josei. The stories or settings in modern shoujo may not always be very original but I believe you can always find things to like even in very cliched works. Think of Yazawa Ai's universe and other modern type josei like Kimi wa Petto, Baby Pop, futago and suppli, or more shoujo works like Hana yori Dango, Dear Friends, Akuma to Love song, Kodocha and Kare Kano, to the sillier comedies likeBeauty Pop, Koukou Debut, kimi wa girlfriend and Skip beat, to more avant-garde works like tutu and utena. Talking about tutu, let's not forget the many mahou shoujo like Sailor Moon, Shugo Chara, CCS, Sugar sugar rune, Fancy Lala and many other entertaining works. Shoujo and josei is a treasure trove of stories :) |

I'm a dude and yeah I love comedy/romance anime's. Dramatic not so much. Clannad and Clannad: After Story (Heart breaking/inspirational loved it) Toradora (Hilarity ensured and guaranteed!) Kaichou wa maid-sama (Maid fetishes? Anyone?) Seitokai Yakuindomo (Do I even need to explain?) B Gata H Kei (Virginity should be sacred) Itazura na Kiss (If you fell would you stand once more?) School Days (...........at least there's alternative endings) So yeah the ones I could think of on top of my head is that. But I don't see why guys would be hesitant to give them a try their stories can sometimes just make you Rofl/cry. |

My ex-boyfriend voluntarily watched shoujo with me, he enjoyed it. As for myself, I like quite a few. Seinen is my favourite genre, but if you want specifics, Bokurano, Higurashi, and Death Note are three I liked in particular (but everybody and their mother has seen Death Note so I don't suppose it quite counts.) I've not watched as much material made for males as for females, but I have generally enjoyed it much more than the female-oriented anime I've watched. |

I'm a girl, and I dislike most anime and manga geared toward girls. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Cromartie High School ...I don't really know what would be considered "guy" anime, actually. Do GTO and Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei count? They both ran in Shounen magazines. |

I'm a girl. And I don't really pay attention to what is aimed at girls vs aimed at boys. For example, as previously mentioned, Lucky Star is aimed at men. I can see that, but that's not really what I expected at first. Anyway, I'm going to try. In no particular order: Trigun Lucky Star Haruhi Suzumiya K-On! Chu-Bra!! Elfen Lied Maria Holic Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt And I am currently watching Yuru Yuri. I've probably missed some. But those are my favorite ones that I think are aimed at men. |

I'm a guy. I watch all sorts of shows (really not restricted to any genre at all). I'm a bit unsure what counts as "girls" anime. Strictly shoujo? (Non Harem) Romance in general? Well... Maria-sama ga Miteru (!!) Maybe REC counts? True Tears Ouran Now that I think about it, I really can't think of many shows that are "girls only"... |

*facepalm* Toradora, Clannad, True Tears, ect?... all of them are aimed for guys, atleast all the VN, LN and Manga's that came before the animes... and for the guys who has written Seitokai Yakuindomo... it's aimed for guys -.- (but I've seen many girls watching it so I would say it's appealing to both genders) "this is to all guys who says they watching any of them :P" Sources - MAL, Wiki, ANN btw I'm a guy and I loved Usagi Drop |

Lucky Star was aimed at men? I suppose all of the shout outs went to things aimed at men in general, but I did think that it was one of those things that had "something for everyone". By the way, by technicality wouldn't Strawberry Panic count as a 'girl' oriented anime? It wasn't categorised as shoujo for nothing after all. |

Guy here. Loved the live-action dramas of Nodame Cantabile and Hana Yori Dango, Cardcaptor Sakura was the best anime I watched on TV as a kid and the Precure series is totally boss. Frankly, if it's decent, I'll watch it. Oh, and Nana. Amazing series. I've enjoyed what I've seen of Chihayafuru, Honey & Clover and Kaleido Star as well, plus what I've read of the Skip Beat! manga was pretty cool. Gender stereotyping can go suck it. |

Among the various anime classifications such as shounen, drama, slice of life, yuri etc there's one called "josei" which is supposed to mean that the target audience are females. I happen to be male but i enjoyed thoroughly several titles categorized as "josei" . Among them are: 1) Nodame Cantabile : at the moment it's one of my top 5 favorite anime. 2) Usagi Drop : one of the best slice of life i've seen. 3) Kuragehime : Also a wonderful title i enjoyed very much 4) Higashi no Eden : I'm currently watching this and i like it alot other girl-ish anime i loved are : k-on, aria, hanasaku iroha, kimi ni todoke and many others. What i'm trying to say here, is that in my humble opinion there aren't really anime for males or females. There are the good and the bad ones. A good title has no genre limitations. |

It's just conforming - general socitiy states that: - this is masculine - this is feminen - this person is too old for this - this person is too young to understand that - this person is in no position to have a view on that topic Anybody who doesn't comply is 'unusual' - being different is something many people don't admit to. Anime is no exception - there could be plenty of poeple who'd never watch; an ultra cutsie series, a romance series with a lead male lead, a realistic slice of life involving adult characters or anything aimed at young children - because they feel it's 'not right for them' (subconciously). |

I would be greatful if more people were like you, but trust me, people care about being 'unusual' (I suppose it depends on who you're around day to day) and there are too many people (of various ages) who aren't quite confident being themselves and/or exploring new things down to fear of what others think ultimately. I've always been 'odd' and only fully embrace it when I was around 15, yet others aren't so accepting - though I'm now in my 20s, people still try to convince me I have some form of identity crisis (based on interests alone, such as; anime, music and games and science to name a few) - more so then when I wasn't very confident. |
