My viewpoint on it is that, while beginning an episode, I want to get a good feel for what I'm about to watch and somewhat gauge the current happenings of a particular series. Likewise, with finishing an episode; I want to feel a sense of appeasement, not degrade myself to random nonsense or K-Pop for a minute and a half.

In any case, how do you all view this matter? :v

I think most Jmusic used for anime captures at least some aspect of the show.

I think it should fit with the show, but a lot of different type of music could fit with the show. As long as it's not Gosick's OP with Suite Precure then I think it's fine.

I don't really care, but I do kind of like it better when they do.

I really think is a most thats when you know a good opening from a not so good one if you know what i mean, popular songs are good...but only if they help you get in the mood of the anime you're watching

Opening and ending sequences in anime are mainly there to promote the artists that perform the songs, so I really don't care if the sequences coincide with the anime. It's just advertising to me.

Honestly the endings mean far less to me then the openings. I watch the opening of every anime episode I watch so I would greatly like it they went with the anime. Ever watch a great opening, then have the anime flop. I hate that. The opening is like a teaser to the anime you are watching so I want them to be worth it.

Yeah, it's nice when a show's OP and ED are thematically relevant to the show's content; but then it also depends on the show itself. If you have a unique show like Paranoia Agent, then an equally unique OP/ED is appreciated... if it's just some generic shounen or harem, then the OP and ED might as well be some J-pop, who really cares?

Of course they should match thematically, but if a anime's OP/ED doesn't match the theme of the show, then it's not a deal breaker..

That being said a good OP/ED is like icing on my vanilla cheesecake.

They should, but I don't really care if they don't because I usually skip them...

I think they songs should definetly capture the essence of the show. If not, then what's the point? The music, lyrics, and background should be appropriate according to the show's message and content.

I don't care all too much if an OP/ED doesn't entirely capture the anime's mood, but I also find it annoying when they set a completely different mood than the anime (Case in point: Elfen Lied'd ED).
I normally skip the OPs and EDs after the first few episodes, but it still feels like an added bonus if they suit the show they've been used in.

The Clannad: After Story ED dance tune is pretty bad, compared to the mood of the show.

I think both the OP and ED should fit the mood of the show. The example I was going to use was the one Adam_R used. I hated it on the really melancholic episodes (which is pretty much the whole thing). Mood killer.

lol Beelzebub's 2nd and 3rd ED song are very girly for a shounen genre XDD I really don't mind about it though.

I think it adds a lot to a show if done right. Hikaru no Go and Full Moon wo Sagashite i thought added alot when they were played during the final scenes of an episode.

It doesn't matter to me but if they suit the anime, it's a good thing.

Especially after the major event in episode 16 or 17, talk about a mood killer.

Yes, I believe they should.

My favorite approach to an OP sequence would have to be ARIA's, since it pretty much changes every episode and sets up what will be happening. Though, with most series that have the same thing at the beginning of each episode, I'll usually skip it or sort of "tune out" the OP unless I really like it after the first 5-10 episodes.

As for ED sequences, they're not very important to me either but can definitely kill moods (I'm looking at you, Sora no Woto ED).

I think they should.

I understand that the main point is promoting the artists, but the songs should have at least Some touching points with the anime story. If nothing else, at least the pace of the song should suit the anime.

Me personally, I don't care much about the endings, it's the opening songs that I expect to be catchy and get me into the mood of the anime I'm watching.
