| This is probably just in anime, but why is it that girls school uniforms are.....really short. Any shorter and they might as well be walking around half naked. And in some animes, the gym uniforms that they wear are so short that its pretty much just fancy tight underwear(examples: Azumanga Daioh,Clannad,etc) and in most anime's, they have those things that go over there legs along with the short skirt. and sometimes they wear, some especially tight clothing. If girls in the US(or anywhere else) wore that, they would be breaking the dress code(in the US at least, although some girls in the US wear similar clothing). Not really concerned, i just though i'd point it out. |

My high school's dress code had it that skirts couldn't be shorter than fingertip length. That's still pretty damn short. |
It's for fan service. Or you just don't get many artists wanting to draw skirts that could pass as dresses very often and possibly want to draw stuff girls wear. Hell I am watching Sailor Moon atm and am not feeling any "fan service" because of some short skirts. |

| The uniforms you see in anime MIGHT be real. i'm not american and in my school girls used to wear skirts as part of the uniform. girls didnt that the dress code stated that the skirt should reach the lap because i could saw them wearing them a little bit shorter. i think something similar happens in japan. you know, not all the girls are pure souls a lot of them actually like going half naked so even though the school says that the skirt should be longer they might attempt to go a little bit over the rules on that. but do think that animes tand to exagerate this there are quite a lot of animes where i see the skirt is pretty long so i think its only the animes with touch of ecchi. about the sport suits its only when you are on a team. wearing normal shorts is a huge disadvantage if you are racing at high level competitions. watch the olympics they all wear this tight suits tis matter of being faster. however i dont think schools make it madatory to wear those :/ |

| When I was in Japan I saw many a school girl, and yes some of the skirts were almost as short as those in anime. Not all of them (notably it was the high school girls who had the short skirts, not the middle schoolers), but some. |

| The gym uniforms that you see in anime USED to be real, but they got rid of them (i hear 10 years ago) because people w ere using them as sexual exploits or something, idk. Now Japanese gym uniforms are just normal baggy shorts (the ones you normally see) The skirts however...could potentially be that short, it really varies from school to school. A catholic school near my school, the girls wear really short skirts for their uniform...if it was a little windy and they didn't hold it down, we would definetley see some pleasant things |
