I started watching live action films about two weeks ago, again;

Undisputed (2002)-

An undefeated world heavyweight boxing champion, played by Ving Rhames, goes to jail for a rape he claims was consensual, then eventually fights against Wesley Snipes, a former undefeated heavyweight prospect who has been in there for 10 years.

Also, Peter Falk plays the silliest and most laughable "menacing old Jewish gangster" imaginable. It would be like Bugs Bunny being a hitman. The boxing scenes are meh; the sound effects are too loud and don't match the actual blows, but none of the punches look lame or uncoordinated. The other scenes are drab and the rap music blows. Snipes was horrible and boring, but Ving Rhames really carried the entire film; he was believable, sympathetic, and even entertaining in his behavior and plight.

47/100

Several more films will be reviewed soon...

One of the films I watched was an old classic;

Willow (1987)-

A gnome living in the forest with his family, working as a simple farmer, goes off on an amazing adventure to save a child princess from the clutches of an evil, powerful Queen.

Keep in mind this is a kids' film; for them, a swashbuckling action adventure set in exciting, diverse locales, from snow-topped mountains to cursed castles is a pure joy. For adults, there is superb pacing, with nary a dull moment, and consistently good humor. Presenting Madmartigan as a ridiculous, over-the-top buffoon was a stroke of genius, and Kilmer steals the show. Slight negatives are the Brownies (just not funny) and the absurd deus ex machina death of the Queen. Overall, excellent.

Interesting you didn't like Violent Cop. That's old school Kitano at his best imo.

The last film I watched was Crows Zero. A very enjoyable flick from Miike, though not much beyond that.

"If you tremble with indignation at every injustice, then you are a comrade of mine"

Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one
For the Union makes us strong

Recently been re-watching some of Takeshi Kitano's films.

Violent Cop - Really like this film. Not only is the content violent, but so is the way in which the story is told and the cinematography.

Sonatine - Just an absolutely brilliant film. The characters, cinematography, and narrative (or lack there of) mesh to create a breathtaking expression of the acceptance of death.

Zatoichi - I liked this film a lot more the 2nd time around. You can't really come into it expecting a a typical samurai/Zatoichi film or else you'll come out thinking WTF. Really like Kitano's theme of the seen vs un-seen that permeates throughout the film.

Takeshis' - First time I saw this I didn't know what to think. Second time around I loved it. Best way to describe this film is a LSD influenced adventure through Kitano's mind.

Glory to the Film Maker - This is probably my least favorite Kitano film and I've only seen it once. I understand the humor behind it and the fact that Kitano doesn't want to be pigeon-holed as a film maker, but this one still didn't click with me.
