Not really news but around 12 hours ago Yoshitoshi posted a pic of Despera (concept?) art cards on Twitter.

I also hope this won't be some kind of SEL#2 rework thingy or something like that, but really something on it's own. With own sphere, characters and stroy development etc.
I hope ABe will surprise me yet again, like he did with Haibane Renmei.
Texhnolyze (or something like that) was a great disappointment to me personally. But I have my hopes up for this one. ^^

Despera canceled
"Hello Joshua,
Thank you for contacting me.
Yes, the anime of "Despera" have been stopped so far.
But I think you will be glad that I can tell you something.
As the graphic novel "Despera" is preparing to publish.
And we plan to publish paperless version too.
It will be included English version.
The next year, you maybe read that."
...and it was Tim Leary. And god help us, we smoked him... (c)

Hmmm...I've heard of Serial Experiment Lain, but Im too scared to watch it. Despera looks good, but Im not expecting anything like Lain, hopefully not.

Lain's not a horror. Nothing to be scared of.

It was recently rereleased in Japan in a restored BluRay edition that looks great, and Funimation has picked up the license for it from Geneon so that same gorgeous BluRay remaster should be coming out here in the States next year.

Lain isn't a "horror series," but to be certain it's more horrifying and deeply disturbing than any anime which would designate itself as "horror." The fear in Lain lies within the perception of reality which we must question within us all.

At the end of the day, much more penetrative and corrosive to an open mind than any pulp thriller/slasher series.

I hope with all my heart that Despera still happens. If it doesn't perhaps we'll at least get an English translation of the serialization, as Konaka has hinted... (A fan translation of these installments was in the works, but unsurprisingly, Konaka's essays proved too complex and ambitious for the average 'scanulator' to tackle.)

All it says is something about publishing the book "Desuberu." I don't see anything that is referring to the anime.

After Lain, Texhnolyze and Haibane Renmei, MAL better make an 11 rating.
'Cause this is just amazing.

Wow! At last something new about Despera! I thought they had completely given up on it. And I don't care what Wikipedia says, if it was postponed it's probably because of the earthquakes and the tsunamis which really affected the series production in many animation Studios.

It was postponed months before the earthquake happened.

I have a hard time trusting wikipedia, especially when it fails to cite important information. Something that important should have been released to the public in some form so they need a link to the news source, otherwise it's as good as a rumor.

Yep, and next to it "There is no plans to resume project. Konaka has although mentioned in this book, that despera has ended and he is doing preparations for the next project. Although, because of Abe apologizing in this book for not being able to complete anime adaptation, the possibility of it being completed is low"

By the way, the source is cited as 大正電脳ダダイズム絵巻 ですぺら i.e. Despera official book

PS. Translation is not mine, though

I've been checking Amazon.jp frequently to see if they released the graphic novels, but unfortunately, no sign of it yet :(

Despera getting cancelled was the worst anime-related news that I've heard until now. I'd like to experince the series through some medium, so I hope there are future plans to release the novels.

"Despera getting cancelled was the worst anime-related news that I've heard until now."

It was def. one of the worst anime-related news in the past few years. I was happy I could start with the "Fate/Zero" series, but that little joy won't make this right xD
