No. Never. Couldn't. Ever.

Usually my friends are friends of mine for a reason. I am not sexually attracted to them, and without sexual attraction that makes it quite hard.
Now, that being said, I have hooked up with a few of my guy friends, (no, not to the greatest degree) and I could honestly never see myself doing it sober. It's just not logical for me.
And one of my best friends likes me now, which makes it really difficult ><

On a side note, I do reallllllly like a good friend of mine, but I liked him before we were good friends and only decided to become close with him because I wanted to be around him more. That is an entirely different situation. I'd be ecstatic if he felt the same way but ehhhh. ya win some, ya lose some.

I couldn't see myself ever dating someone who's not also my best friend.

Seriously, I'm not looking for some 'romance', some meaningless words with someone whom I barely, the idea that my significant other is also my best friend is crucial, after all, if another is? Why the hell would I not spend more time there?

I want someone whom I can cuddle platonically or romantically depending on the time of the day and the mood, someone with whom I can just as easily be bored together as fuck on the couch watching re-runs of House as all that clichéd romantic stuff. I want someone whom I love not someone I'm in love with

Also, to say that romantic love is somehow 'more' than friendship is absurd, it's purely chemical, I'm not saying both are exclusive and of course can pretty much collide on the same person. But a best friend, you'll remember for a long time and usually don't that easily break contact with, your boyfriend, you'll usually end up totally not caring anymore and hating him.

Like they say 'being in love is basically loving a person that doesn't exist and making yourself believe your boyfriend is that person'.

I carry a picture of her around with me in my wallet and I say hi to her every morning.
Cuz that's how I fucking roll.

Well, I did.
But it's because we both have feelings for each other.
My friend told me first and then I followed. And we're still in a happy strong relationship after more than 2 years :)

Since he's my best friend, I know that if dating didn't work out for us we'd still be close and on good terms.

So yes. :) But not in this case, because I don't think by best guy friend right now would make a brilliant partner. XD
curiouser and curiouser :)

I don't agree at all with your opinion. The majority of my closest friends are female and I'm 100% straight nor am I even remotely viewed as possibly being gay. Of course I have 'sexual feelings' for some of the cute girls but I suppress them in efforts to be there friends because I actually enjoy there company.... And I have a girlfriend already.

My best friend is a female, but I don't have any feelings for her. I just like her as a friend because she's very enjoyable to be around. Brings a lot of energy wherever she goes.

I think it really depends on a lot of different aspects.
In a relationship a lot of things have to come together for it to work.
If all those things added up, then for sure. It's all about being in the right place at the right time. (: There would be no sense in not trying if we were both attracted to each other.

I didn't think you were that stupid ^^. I don't know about your world, but in mine not everything consists of clichés, you know.
One of my very best friends is female and I often talk to her about my relationship issues, sex, the girls I'm in love with etc. It's actually quite helpful to have a female friend to talk about these things, because of that I can have a glimpse at a girls mind without relying on prjudices and clichés and it helps to see things from their perspective once in a time.
I probably regret this post by now.

If it were a guy, hmm. Probably ^_^; I'd like to be able to say something diplomatic like "no, the risk to the friendship is too great", but in reality, if I really liked him enough to date him, I'd probably cave x_x

Also, I don't really fight with people. So when we broke up, it would probably be because we just kind of fizzled out. Which means that the friendship might actually have a chance of surviving :)

agreed there. i've been with my best friend for going on five years (and married now). there has to be something besides just he/she is hot, fucks like a bunny, and has a nice job or whatever. when the shit hits the fan there has to be something stronger holding it together. friendship is the oil that keeps the engine running. any LTR that i know of that has lasted was based in friendship, whether it was developed before or after the relationship started.

and for those who "wouldn't risk losing a friendship", first of all, go out on a limb once in a while, maybe things fuck up, but maybe it turns out to be the best thing you ever did. and if that friendship is lost, chances are it wasn't strong enough to last some other situation anyways. besides, friends are great and all, but there's always friends out there to be made. there's only a few great chances you get at something more though. i'm glad i went for it.

My best friends are both female, so no.

However, If it was a guy friend I would most likely end up developing romantic feelings for him. So in that case, definitely. Of course, I would only get into that stage with him if I felt I knew him enough to trust him.

My best female friend I don't think of as the prettiest girl on earth.
But my ex used to be my best friend... that relationship is now long gone, so yeah, I'm living proof of losing strong bonds after relationships lol.

Hypothetically speaking, if I had a fucking hot as a fuck best chick friend, I'd totally date her.
When I go into a relationship, my girlfriend WILL be basically my best friend. I want to share things with her, secrets, and everything, everything will be shared. I want to laugh with her etc.
If I can't hit best friend level or go beyond it, it's pointless.

I for one don't think men and women can be just friends, so the answer is simple, yes, although i never had a bf girl so it's only hypothetical. As for my best friend, i don't swing that way so no, but the same rule apples if i were gay.
