I feel like nobody buys flour these days. When was the last time you actually made your own dough and baked something?

I thought making my own bread was a money saver, but calculations proved each loaf was costing the same as a loaf of the cheap bagged stuff
in other words some bean counter at grocer HQ had figured out to price the cheapest flour and the cheapest yeast just high enough to prevent consumers from saving one penny by making their own bread, the scheming bastard

after that, it was hard to justify the extra time and energy required to bake my own

but I'm not a complete time miser, sometimes the extra effort is worth it

recently I found some packs of uslu turkish olives, the real pungent kind, and when I have a free afternoon they will become many loaves of fancy olive bread

Yes, I buy flour and bake bread. There are still people who buy that btw.

I buy it now and then. I made dough for Christmas cookies yesterday, which needed flour. Occasionally, I’ll make dough for things like homemade noodles or pretzels. I also used it last week to help me roll out store bought pizza dough for the pepperoni/cheese balls I was making.

I bought some about 3-4 years ago because I felt like baking bread but I quickly learned that I prefer cooking over baking. I've baked other things both before and since that time which didn't require flour but I still don't like it

yes i buy flour. i don't do any baking, so i don't buy a lot of it. but i always have some in my cabinet for cooking purposes. whether it's for a gravy or roux, or when i want to fry some chicken or fish. i'd say i buy a bag of it every few months since the amount goes a long way for my use case.

I bake regularly, it's genuine part of my toxic masculine identity, haha.

I always have flour on hand as I bake pretty often, though sometimes I will borrow some from my work as well since they are pretty cool about it if I only take a little.

I have been eating gluten free for almost 4 yrs now and baking GF is very intimidating for me. I've tried once or twice over the years and things just didn't turn out well. I usually will buy some box mixes so that I can enjoy some of the same treats but GF. Before I was GF, I would bake things from scratch all the time.

I buy flour pretty regularly depending on what I'm making. Currently in my cabinet I own regular flour for basic baking, cake flour, bread flour for focaccia and other breads, 00 flour for pasta, and I'm trying to find a decent pastry flour for things like pie dough. It's not as easy to find a good pastry flour that isn't in a huge bulk sale though unless you get lucky or your local shop sells it which mine do not

@foxes_are_neet focaccia is one of the better time/cost/effort ratio breads IMO if you don't care too much about the extra calories. You can top it with random things making it the dumping ground of bread from savory to sweet and tends to feel rewarding even when your effort is minimal

@Mjamoon it's a bit expensive but at my job we use cup 4 cup GF flour for all our GF recipes and it works really well for us. I believe its rice and tapioca flour
