The anime themselves from said decade, plus that time period for you as a fan

2020's - my casual watching period, only really watching new things that appeal to me

2010's - my peak obsession period, i also have a fondness for 2008-2016 anime as that's the majority of my list

2000's - the nostalgia period. growing up with yugioh and watching practically everything on Toonami and cartoon network and 4kids tv

1990's - this anime era to me is all abotu reruns, i was too young to watch this stuff as it aired. But i do have lots of memories of things like Bebop ad DBZ being replayed
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

90s: Starter anime era. That was when I first saw Sailor Moon, which was like a cooler version of Disney's Snow White. Like a lot of people, I was intrigued at how much more in-depth (and violent) Japanese anime was compared to their American counterparts. Probably would have thought differently if I saw other countries' stuff, because American cartoons had a lot of censorship and restrictions at the time.

00s: Fandom era. The dueling Pokemon forums of Serebii and Bulbagarden were huge back then, and I digested a lot of fan pages, fan art, got into a lot of stupid forum fights because I was a dumb teenager, etc. Canadian channels exposed me to a lot of interesting stuff, some you couldn't get easily from the USA such as Power Stone or the full dub of Cardcaptors. Also got into RPGs.

10s: Convention era. This is when I moved to the city. Because I stopped having cable TV, I didn't watch anime to the same degree and was more into RPGs. But I got my start as a musician when I started doing a Cardcaptors cover song and got some ideas for my own music. This is what allowed me to set up panels for free con access. I didn't hang around dedicated anime clubs much, but we have a huge Asian diaspora community, so people generally knew about anime and recognized that in my songs and the way I dressed.

20s: Revival era, I guess? I'm a busy person these days, so actually watching anime isn't something I do every so often. However, it's a positive sign that 2024's two most popular anime starred active, assertive female leads. Whatever my misgivings about some of the other harem/isekai stuff that gets popular, I'm glad there's also better stuff than what I grew up with for the younger generation. I also discovered my new favourite anime character in Kanon Shibuya, which is fitting considering I had also become a singer and I was surprised at how well Love Live Superstar conveyed the singer mindset.
