| I didn't know where to make this thread since Fate is a franchise at this point and not just an anime. So I decided to make this thread here. I am one of the few who read the original F/SN VN. In the VN, we see Kotomine Kirei's character well-fleshed out. We see why he is evil, what made him evil. But in the anime he is shown to be cartoonishly evil for no reason but because, why not? It sucks honestly. He is my fav character of all time. What is your opinion about Kotomine Kirei? |

| Honestly I've only play The Fate video games, and haven't watched a whole lot of the anime series. From what I saw though he was okay. |

| I didn't have the impression that F/Z Kirei is cartoonishly evil at all, he wasn't a greed or power hungry despot, he didn't have a highly sympathizable backstory of loss or something similar that led him to be evil as is common in anime. He is just a person who palpably wanted to do good, but gained no pleasure from a life of virtue and was in a constant state of ennui. He tried to seek the question of why he is wired the way he is, but came up with no answers, and simply embraced his nature. I think the sombre acceptance of that is not that common in anime. |
