Certainly a follow-up episode to last week’s, that’s for sure. The CG, especially on the bird, didn’t blend in at all. Some strong work at the end of the first half, but otherwise...

Anyways, loved how they made Luffy so goofy this episode lmaooo. Two week break, now.

I was good until I realized the haki blast blew off Luffy’s scars. I laughed myself into a headache.

I wish they’d leave the filler until after the arc. There’s nothing new about Lucci that we can learn from Chopper.

People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

As expected from Toei Animation, we actually got a high-quality episode this week. And honestly, I feel like the pacing got a bit better compared to the last few eps, which made me so happy ‘cause it was really starting to get painful to watch ๐Ÿ˜‚ (y’know Toei is kinda infamous for their trash pacing anyway).

This ep had Luffy being hilarious, especially when he just pulled out a baseball bat from nowhere. And when he grabbed that paint bucket I was like, “oh no, he’s totally gonna write 56 on it” — and yeah, it was super obvious, we all know why lol.

Tbh, I wasn’t super hyped for this ep since I was mostly waiting for Vegapunk to start talking (which didn’t happen again, rip). But the hype for the next episode is REAL — Emet finally woke up ๐Ÿคฉ.

The only bummer is I heard from the fandom Discord that apparently we won’t have One Piece for the next two weeks ๐Ÿ˜ญ like… why, Toei??

Anyway, let’s just hang out and keep each other entertained until then so the wait doesn’t feel that long.

Bro, that bird CGI was actually solid — I didn’t even notice at first, only caught it after looking closer ๐Ÿ˜…. Overall the anime’s quality was top notch as usual, but since last week’s ep was straight-up a visual masterpiece, this one might feel a bit underwhelming in comparison.

Yeah, I don’t get their reasoning either.
The news I saw didn’t give any explanation, just dropped the break dates outta nowhere.

This episode gone by in a flash. Luffy's quirky Gear 5 moves coupled with the Giants' strength makes the fight so good. Now the Giant Robot's gonna lend them a hand.
And we get another week of filler after this ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ
My only complaint is that if they are gonna be introducing fillers every now and then like before why did they need that 6 months break. They could just keep on going..

@Niwaka-Samurai I have briefly described my assumptions here https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=2226120 Another possible reason is to give more time for the animation of future episodes (not necessarily the upcoming ones), because the break is longer than usual. And there's a VERY small chance that they're doing this so that the Vegapunk speech piece has a more acceptable pace (at least 1.5-2 chapters in each episode, starting with the adaptation of chapter 1114 and ending with chapter 1119), but I want to believe

No new episode next week. It seems like the new formula is: for every 4 episodes of actual content, we get one filler.

About Nami’s voice—was it the same seiyuu?

Loved the episode. I'm glad Jinbei finally put a stop to Zoro and Lucci's fight. I'm also glad Emet finally started to move, I wonder what he's going to do and how he'll be able to help the Straw Hats. Can't wait to see what unfolds in the upcoming episode.

@Wayne_Flow I wouldn't count on them doing more than 1 chapter per episode. Anime takes breaks to make up for manga breaks, so they can keep the distance between the two stable.

Jimbei notices Marcus Mars has broken through the Labophase barrier and rushes to get Zoro out of here. He tells Zoro that the fight is over and he’s won, but Lucci ain’t done yet. Instead of ALLOWING ZORO TO FINISH THE FIGHT HIMSELF, Jimbei has the AUDACITY to interfere and hit Lucci with Fish-Man Karate Five Thousand Brick Chop. JIMBEI, THIS WAS ZORO’S FIGHT. LET HIM END IT ON HIS OWN TERMS, DAMN! After Jimbei and Zoro leave, Lucci informs Marcus about the locations of the remaining Straw Hats, York, and Kaku, and he specifically asks him to make sure that Kaku isn’t sacrificed. As much as a hindrance as he’s been to the Straw Hats, he does have a tight bond with his comrades and won’t abandon them.

Luffy informs Dorry and Brogy that they’re simply trying to escape the island and don’t care for a drawn out fight, and it seems that Sanji already informed the two of these intentions. Dorry blows a horn to let his crew know that they’ve secured Luffy, but Topman lets out his own battlecry with his intense Haki to make them stay around that ends up knocking out the nobody Navy people. During this, one of the weirdest things occurs. Luffy’s scars, eyes, Fifth Gear clouds, sandals, and purple cloth COME OFF HIS BODY LIKE TAPE, but thankfully he’s able to attach them back. THIS IS SO CRAZY HOW LUFFY’S BODY DEFIES LOGIC DUE TO HIS BADASSERY! But that’s not the only shocking part of this episode, just wait! Topman tried to attack Luffy, but Dorry and Brogy knocked him back with Skilja Split.

St. Saturn tried to shoot poison balls to hit Luffy, but Luffy does the unthinkable. HE TAKES A TREE, CUTS IT WITH HIS TEETH INTO THE SHAPE OF A BAT, USES HIS FIFTH GEAR CLOUDS TO CREATE PAINT FOR IT, PUTS ON A BASEBALL HELMET WITH 56 ON IT, AND HITS THEM BACK TO ST. SATURN. JUST ABSOLUTE AMAZINGNESS AND BADASSERY FROM THE FIFTH EMPEROR.

Usopp, Chopper, Lilith, and Edison are working on dislodging the Sunny while Zoro and Jimbei are making their way over. Franky, Bonney and Atlas are on their way to The Great Erik, but there are Navy Vice Admirals standing in their way.

Marcus pulls up on Stussy, York, and Kaku and asks what room the broadcast is happening in. Kizaru is still mentally exhausted from killing Vegapunk and FINALLY, FIN-ALL-LLLLY, THE GIANT ROBOT HAS GOTTEN UP FROM JOYBOY’S APPEARANCE AND IS ABOUT TO KICK SOME ASS! LET’S GO, THIS IS GETTING CRAZIER AND CRAZIER!

I CAN’T WAIT FOR MORE ONE PIECE, OH MY GOD SUCH AMAZING STUFF WE GOT RIGHT HERE!

Episode was lame. I know that not every episode can be a 10/10, but it still sucks that the pacing is what hurts these Egghead episodes the most. The animation wasn't amazing either outside of a couple of scenes, but that's expected since this is Toei we're talking about. Speaking of which, they really need to ditch the CGI because it's really jarring when mixed with 2D animation.

@Ridzaxster First off, this episode isn’t even part of the main series — it’s made as a special. So if someone’s binging the show in order, they won’t really bump into it like a Naruto-style filler.
Second, the animators’ quality is insanely good, and these breaks are mostly just to keep some distance from the manga so they don’t end up having to pull a 6-month hiatus again.
But yeah, the pacing is actual pain, and making OP seasonal from the start would’ve been the best option — something Toei never went for ‘cause, y’know, $$$.

@Wayne_Flow my complaint is that they don't really need to do a weekly release. Instead give us a 24ep season for a year. At least once every 2 years since it's not possible every year.
This would reduce the burden on Oda and the animators as well.

Nah, you’re wrong.
Pretty much everyone I’ve seen who skips One Piece says it’s ‘cause of the insane episode count. Which honestly makes sense — it could’ve been way shorter if the pacing wasn’t so dragged out.

@Nerdason The only reason to why i don't drop the show is because of how much time i invested on it.

Gear 5 really ruined it for me, impossible to take any enemy seriously and it's annoying all the time. Sadly, Oda didn´t cook with this horrible transformation
