Production company Infinite announced a second season for the Re:Monster television anime on Thursday, revealing a teaser visual (pictured).

Produced by Studio Deen, the first anime season adapting Kogitsune Kanekiru's isekai fantasy light novel aired in 12 episodes in Spring 2024. Crunchyroll simulcasted the anime with subtitles and dubs in multiple languages.

Kanekiru began penning the original series on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in May 2011. AlphaPolis began publishing the novel in July 2012, featuring illustrations by Yamaada (Toaru Ossan no VRMMO Katsudouki). The ninth and final volume went on sale in July 2017.

Kankiru launched the Re:Monster: Ankoku Tairiku-hen (Re:Monster: The Dark Continent) sequel light novel with illustration by Naji Yanagida (Tensei shitara Dragon no Tamago datta) in June 2018. AlphaPolis published the fourth volume in March 2024, with the fifth volume going on sale on Friday. The series has a cumulative 2.1 million copies of its volumes in circulation.

Haruyoshi Kobayakawa began serializing a manga adaptation on AlphaPolis' official website in March 2014. The 12th volume was released in October 2024, with the 13th volume also set to be released on Friday.

Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga in English in February 2016 and released the 11th volume on June 10. The 12th volume is planned for a January 6, 2026 release.

I dropped this after the first episode. Like really, THIS is what gets a second season? I want a second season of Ms Vampire Who Lives In My Neighborhood and Gabriel DropOut.

Izure Saikyou no Renkinjutsushi? & Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha and now this one too !!
Wow, my good series with OP Mcs are getting sequels suddenly one after another !!
2026 will be stacked with great series to look forward to, well for me at least lol
Wait, did they forget "Kikansha no Mahou wa Tokubetsu desu Season 2" or what ? we're two years now without a single update !!

” Then she brought him to her people, carrying him. They said, “O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented. O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste.” So she pointed to him. They said, “How can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?” [Jesus] said, “Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and alms tax as long as I remain alive. And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant. And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive.” That is Jesus, the son of Mary—the word of truth about which they are in dispute. It is not for Allah to take a son; exalted is He! When He decrees an affair, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is. [Jesus said], “And indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path.” [Holy Quran : Chapter Maryam (Mary) : 23-36]

@wildhood Yeah the first season of this was kinda mid. I'll probably give the second season a chance though if it's released during a season without much else to watch.

Really cool to see someone else who appreciates Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san! I read a bit of the manga back in 2017 and 2018 before the anime came out but It didn't have a lot of translated chapters at the time. I re-read the whole thing recently and actually finished it earlier this week and I think it's a 10/10 series and maybe even one of my favorite manga ever. It's so rare to find a comedy manga that's genuinely funny, and I also loved the whole concept of it. Top tier characters too, both their design and their personalities and how they interact with each other

I haven't seen the original season, so I can't really comment directly on quality. But this is another subpar (going by MAL ratings) show getting more content. I can only assume the source is successful with 5 volumes (+9 original) and so many sales.

I'll never be mad about any show getting more content, as I love to see shows getting continuations and someone will be happy. Still, the things I'd do for a new season of Nina the Starry Bride, 7th Time Loop, More Than A Married Couple, Mononogatari, Shadows House, and many many more. But alas.

I guess this new season will get the series over halfway through the original source novel.

This show is a nice crossover of Re:Zero and Monster. Can't wait for Dr Tenma to show off his Return By Death ability this season.

Even as someone who enjoyed this isekai slop for what it was, I can't believe this is getting a second season. I'll probably watch it, but I dont expect anything to blow me away

@iwubanime I wouldn't say it's an underrated masterpiece or a hidden gem, but this show can be a pretty "special" experience once you realize the plot is basically a fantasy about completing an open-world RPG 100% with a monstrously developed character. Another issue is that it seems people have become too spoiled by the large number of new and good shows, so now any announcement of a sequel to a title that is not a blockbuster is immediately met with constant complaints from people outside the target audience of these shows.

@wildhood Most such works receive anime thanks to the LN fanbase, not the anime itself. Just look at the original LN's ratings, even on this site.

@EcchiGodMamster It's funny to hear these complaints coming from you, considering it's a very horny anime and the MC regularly makes babies with his literal harem. You weren't trying to criticize the show based on tags alone without actually watching it, were you?

@RobertBobert - thanks for giving your thoughts about the show. I'll add it as a show to consider watching in the future. To your later point, yeah, I almost considered not commenting but felt like this might spur some conversation lol.

I was thinking about that before my original post. Wondering if I was just complaining because it wasn't a "good show".

It made me question how many shows get announced that fall into each MAL score range. Not that I have time to do that sort of inspection but it'd be interesting to see that data. Scoring is subjective but offhand it feels like a lot of "mid range" shows, say 6.7 - 7.7 get missed.

As I was writing now, curiosity got the best of me, I decided to look through all the scores of shows with new seasons:

Clevatess - ~7.9
Dan Da Dan Season 2 - ~8.5
Farming Life in Another World - ~7.5
From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman - ~7.0
Grand Blue Dreaming Season 2 - ~8.6
I Left My A-Rank Party to Help My Former Students Reach the Dungeon Depths! - ~6.6
I Parry Everything - ~6.9
Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 4 - ~6.2
Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time - ~6.6
There's No Freaking Way I'll be Your Lover! Unless... - ~7.7

I went as far back as Blue Miburo (April) so my sample size is pretty small. Out of the 21 shows, here are the breakdowns:

6 - 6.5 | 2
6.5 - 7.0 | 5
7.0 - 7.5 | 3
7.5 - 8.0 | 4
8.0 - 8.5 | 3
8.5+ | 4
-------------

Actually very even split between scores!

Even in my personal "mid range" bucket:

6.75 - 7.75 | 5

Which is a reasonable 4th of the sample size.

Ultimately, there's no correlation between these stats and the sequels chosen. I just thought it was interesting. It convinces myself to just stay quiet on these sorts of topics. Sorry if I offended anyone with my original comment about this show being subpar.

For those that read this far, thank you for reading my ramble. :)

@iwubanime Also, don't forget that we live in a time when people often downvote shows they don't watch simply because they don't like them or because they don't appeal to their tastes. This is one of the main reasons why many shows have very low ratings before the season finale, especially in the early days, when people are actively checking out a wide variety of shows. For example, someone who doesn't like silly comedies might consistently give low ratings to shows in this genre without even trying to watch them.

It's getting a SECOND?
Someone animated it in the first place?

What horrible news for me.
Hope whoever likes this is happy with the announcement.
