I think it's now time to update abuse section on mal forum guidelines to add "anime tourist" in insult category.

Considering more and more people use "anime tourist" as a way to indirectly/directly insult someone.

I do not understand why someone would be offended by the title unless they think it applies to them.

@rohan121 Well for me I don't care about this insult, but some people may be uncomfortable about it.

Edit: insults are still insults at the end of the day, they should not be happening.

No need to. This way of addressing people is about as neutral as, I dunno, calling someone an "anime poser" or using similar phrases. In my opinion, it’s not eligible to be considered part of a separate category of general offenses, especially compared to far more serious things, such as racial offenses. Including it would just water down most, if not all, of the existing categories in terms of their social importance, without necessarily addressing “anime tourist” haters effectively, especially if, again, the term is used neutrally to describe a phenomenon.

Still, an offense is an offense at the end of the day, and I agree it shouldn’t be the norm. However, I think the current rules under the Abuse section are enough to deal with someone who’s trolling or flaming by throwing around terms like “anime tourist” (with or without context), or even worse ones. If someone feels that a post falls under the general rules of the Abuse section, or even is directly insulting towards that person, then they might just report said post.

it might be an insult but its euphemism so they should allow it here for the sake of at least discussing it so what should be ban is direct or brutal insults more

These are just examples, the list is not limited to this. Therefore, no expansion is necessary, our rules cover all insults.

Personally, I don't see Anime Tourist as a real insult, this is a term that has been in use for quite some time in the anime community, automatically blacklisting this would be ridiculous. You could just as easily say that „weeb” is an insult.

@-DxP- I mean I'm all in for the discussions of this "Anime tourism" discourse but what I meant is when someone starts to use this word not for discussion related but as an insult.

Edit: With "weeb" I agree with you, because community use this unironically and also you have strong points with anime tourist that blacklisting this word would be ridicolous but once again what I meant is when someone will start to use this word unironically to insult someone rather than discussing this.

@jacobPOL I understand what you mean, but as I said, we have enough leeway to moderate insults and do not need to explicitly include the word in the abuse definition.

@rohan121 The ones who complain the most about gatekeeping tend to be the ones that the gate was meant to keep out in the first place. Tourist is a perfectly good description of a certain type of "fan" who got into anime during the pandemic and spend more time hating on every anime trope and wanting to change it than they do actually watching anime
