| IN a show with an ensemble cast, the character who's just kind of there. Like yeah, i guess they're in the main characters orbit but they're out of focus Tristan from Yugioh. In DM at least he almost never duels, he's barely even a cheerleader Chihiro from Azumanga Daioh. Almost no personality Ukita from Death Note. If you count L's task force. Has the least amount of development and is the Shino from Naruto and many of the other Konoha 12 are just background characters. TenTen is also a big offender |

| It's hard to call Chihiro a part of the main group in Azumanga. I think she's only around during the first chapters and heaven knows if she's even in the same classroom with them later on in the manga. Speaking of wasted potential in side characters, I choose Manzou the Saw. That character really needed a better gimmick. Samurai Champloo needed better recurrent characters in a nutshell, like those three old men from Cowboy Bebop. |
Angel Nanael from Queen's Blade. She does nothing, she contributes nothing and has absolutely zero importance to the story since she's the comic relief. |

| Not sure why you would mention Shino. He stopped Kankurou during the Crushing of the Leaf stopping him from interfering in the already difficult fight with Gaara. He also defeated Torune the guy with the instakill chakra eating bugs that even Obito avoided. He's consistently shown to be a competent strategist and pretty effective ninja in his few fights. Sai is supposedly part of Team 7, I cannot tell you what he was doing from the Pain arc onward. |

| Among currently airing shows, Kaho was mostly left out of Watanare. I guess she has more presence later in the LN, but considering this anime season alone the ensemble feels unbalanced. |
