Grand blue manga. The anime is still good, but Kimitakes insane artwork is what carries the comedy makes it so fun to read, and some of the character designs in the s2 just feel a bit off imo. The jokes also land much better in the manga

I'd say nearly all of them, even when the anime is technically superior to the manga. For example, Kimetsu no Yaiba's manga has relatively modest art while the anime's animation is stellar, but I miss the darker "ancient tale"-like atmosphere in the manga. The first mangas I read when I started reading manga regularly over 20 years ago were Love Hina and Ranma 1/2, each with a very distinctive visual language, and when soon afterwards I watched both anime adaptations I already felt like there was something off, that was when I first realized it. It's not like they were bad adaptations, there's simply some things that are going to be "lost in translation" if you adapt a manga into an anime. Certainly much less than in a live action adaptation, but still.

Oddly, shojo is an exception for me. Likely because I'm more into the shonen and seinen canons, and since studios do them most of the time their shojo adaptations tend to be "shonenized". KareKano is a blatant example of this, no wonder Masami Tsuda allegedly disliked Gainax's slapstick-heavy take on her series; I'd almost say they used it as a sandbox to sketch what's now Trigger's distinctive style. Even if I find KareKano's anime really appealing and the manga not as much, the latter definitely feels more genuine IMO.

Magikano definitely.
The anime tones down the ecchi a lot and introduces some characters early. The manga has some great parts like the wizard exam.
The manga is around 53 chapters while the anime roughly adapts 20 chapters and makes up a conflict at the end.

The Berserk manga is 100% better than any anime adaptation. The anime series and movies leave out so much detail so anime only watchers are missing out a lot. It would take forever to make a good Berserk anime where the art is just as good as the manga. I've only read the manga and seen the first few episodes of the 1997 anime and random animated clips though.

Mahou Sensei Negima!, UQ Holder!, Rosario Vampire, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Plunderer and Dragon Ball Super (Well this one is debatable but I personally enjoyed the manga more than the anime does).

Planetes: the thread.

The anime sucks. The manga is one of the best things I've had the chance to read. And yes, I know anime-only people love Planetes. They're wrong (^:

@kuroneko99

Tell me you have bad taste without telling me you have bad taste. Then again you are an edgelord, so there is that.

And it seems lately this thread has devolved into "let's shit on anime we don't like yet liked by others".

I didn't know this thread existed so long. If you tried to refer this type of threads in general... you realized it now?

Anyway, stop being cynical toward everyone. You already got this and didn't study anything?

Gantz. The manga is utterly gripping, unpredictable and intense while its adaptation is a slog to sit through.

Kingdom https://myanimelist.net/manga/16765/Kingdom?q=kingdom&cat=manga

How much was rushed through in the first season with the anime adapting 174 chapters of kingdom in 39 eps, the censorship that butchers a lot of anti war themes, skipped one crucial arc etc.

You are asking like ninety percent of manga ever made. Anime better than the manga are far and between on the other hand.

Pretty much any manga that were made before the anime, and not made based on the anime.

One of my favorite is Black Cat. The anime has that weird ass ending that came out of nowhere and is just plain ridiculous for no reason (literally they could have just left out the last 2 episodes and the ending would have been far better), cuts out a LOT of cool stuff too. I like the anime but the manga is a bajillion million times better. And there's a talking smoking evil monkey that's pretty chill. For some reason.

A lot... Rosario+Vampire is the best example - in the sense that is not just a low budget adaptation, like Sakamoto Days for example, but the anime alters the story in something so different from the original that the director should not only be blacklisted from the industry, but should also receive the death penalty.

Tokyo Ghoul is another great example - the anime adaptation, is like a Hollywood live-action adaptation of an anime.

On the other hand, two of my favorite manga of all time, Renai Bokun and Medaka Box, were screwed by poor quality and low budget adaptation, with poor direction.

Kingdom. Censhorship of the anime butchers the anti war themes of the manga's showcase of harsh reality of war and also butchers the weight of one of the main "character" goal. Speeches in the anime are meh for me in comparison to the manga how speeches are so perfect that not only I get goosebumps but also somehow moral boost even though I only read the manga. Also the first season is heavily rushed through adapting 174 chapters in to 38 eps and skipping one crucial arc that was the setup for the one crucial character and their future character development.

Altough later seasons have been becoming better when it comes to pacing/adapted content, direction.

Shaman King
The anime's not bad,but the manga is simply better, they tried to fix things up with the remake and they did a good job,but still can't compare it to the manga
