From all the stuffs I have added in MAL, the anime entries were quick to get rejected or approved whereas the manga entries had to wait months. I've currently made an ask to add Sanmon Shousetsushuu Segawa Tamaki Sakuhinshuu, it's been months and it's not been approved or rejected yet. On the other hand I've proposed two MVs directed by VIVINOS and QMENG yesterday and they're already approved.
Is it because there's more mods for anime or do they do both manga and anime ?
Also is it better to make such topics with manga titles pending approval to have a reaction or is it rude to do so ?
(If not please add Sofa-chan it's been pending for more than a year...)

Less mods maybe. Besides, there are far more manga and manhwa etc out there as compared to anime. The list is far far bigger. We do need more mods to make the approval procedure faster. Also, there are certain rules for a manga or manhwa or hua to be added here. Mods will probably take more time to look into the information to make sure the approved manga fulfills the requirements.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

@FZREMAKE I see, that indeed makes sense.

I guess because manga have a lower approval priority, because anime are more popular on MAL so pending anime entries probably get approved first.

Anime is a priority here, I hear AniList is faster when it comes to manga.

Don't know, they have separate mods for each though. Only someone from the team can answer something like that I think: https://myanimelist.net/staff

There is more manga entries than anime overall. There's over 70k manga entries, but less than 30k anime ones

@Lucifrost Because usually I receive a message to inform me that it had been rejected. I though it was always the case, is it not ?

I didn't know that, as I have never gotten a rejection message. I suppose that could mean none of my edits have been rejected, but quite a few have yet to be implemented even in the anime database.

@Lucifrost I see, the rejection messages are always followed by an exaplanation for the rejection indicating the rules that the entries breaks.
In a recent forum someone gave a link for the unapproved (and other) MAL entries, maybe some are from you : https://purarue.xyz/dbsentinel/

Sometimes anime do sit for a while, but there are a couple reasons why they are generally approved faster:
1) There are way more pending manga than anime, so the mods have a lot more to review. Multiple manga are approved every day, but the queue is already massive and there's never a lack of more to submit with how many exist and continue to be made.
2) In some cases, anime entries require less to review than manga. Think about the music videos you submitted: if you provided the main details, there's really not a lot you need to check.
3) Mods are either anime or manga, and there are about the same number of each, but it's not just about the number of staff, but the quality of them. There is one anime staff member in particular who I have to thank for reviewing almost everything I've submitted.
Note: While Anilist does have more manga on their site, they do not allow Korean MVs, so MAL certainly has its advantages.

You can try messaging the mods about titles, but your millage will vary. Generally though, just asking for something to be approved doesn't go so well, especially on the manga front where there are over 7,000 titles in the queue. If everyone did this, it would quickly become overwhelming.

Not to mention the rules expanding to allow even more content in the manga database. How do the admins think their mods can catalogue every novel and webtoon when they can't properly catalogue Japanese comics?

Because they can't afford not to. They're extremely popular, so if they don't track them, people will move elsewhere.

Only months? In my experience it takes years.
I gave up trying to add stuff to the Manga DB. And I only use it to track a few of the titles I read.

I'm talking about people moving to other anime databases like Anilist or Anime-Planet (I know people who were using these sites to exclusively track these works not on MAL). They already allowed manhwa/manhua and novels/light novels, they just changed the requirements for what makes them qualify. A lot of them have official English translations, which they seem to like to prioritize. Maybe someday they will open up to animation and comics from more countries.

I'm just saying they'd have done that already if the goal was to make MAL a database for anything and everything popular.

They do a poor job of that too. I've read my fair share of titles that aren't in the database.

I want to know that too. I had submitted manga entries more than 2 years ago and they still haven't been approved, their pages still show pending. But there are times my entries were approved within a week, I'm guessing that if there's some missing information like start date and it's not easy to find then mods just leave it as pending.

Lucifrost said:

You can check all the pending for approval manga list here. If it's rejected the page would be deleted and it will no longer show on the site I linked.

Is it worth messaging a mod about this? There are two pending titles I’d really like to see approved, 1 of them essentially I don’t understand why it hasn’t, but I wasn’t the one who made the request so idk if there’s anything I can do or worth doing

@Rogersss I think you can message even if you aren't the person who submitted it. If you really want it on the database.
Now I go on Anime Planet if a manga I read/I'm reading goes pending for too long.

I think this is a good thing- they are being FLOODED with people trying to add manga ... the side issue is that what is listed under "manga" on this site are a mix of different media: actual manga, light novels, (VN's possibly??) and WEBTOONS and the whole webtoon thing is a crock and none of them should be considered for this website. But due to the sheer number of submissions they've either given up, or are having to do research to decide if they belong in the MAL database. They need to institute a new rule around manga- if it can't be bought in a store, it don't belong- END OF.

We'll see........
