Many older animes that are massively popular continue to exist today, which ones are the most popular? It includes Dragon Ball, Naruto, One piece and much more.

Hello, it seems you might have written the word "animes".
As a bot, I have to inform you that the plural of "anime" is still "anime".

This message was automated, if you no longer want to see such messages in your threads, type "!anime" as a response to this comment.

Probably One Piece.

I wish Sailor Moon would get more recognition though. It seems like it being brought back to Toonami Rewind last year got some people interested in it at least, from what I've seen on the toonami subreddit.

Dragonball is both the oldest anime and the most popular anime on this list. One Piece came out in the tail end of the 90s, 1997. One Piece means the world to me, but Luffy isn't getting Son Goku levels of recognition. Perhaps ever.

If you changed your poll to the best story in older anime, you would be cooking. There are some great stories on the anime on your list.

Also @MinakoBestGirl Sailor Moon deserves all the recognition, especially Sailor Moon S. But Sailor Moon Crystal wasn't it. I kinda wonder if Sailor Moon will ever get it's propers for everything it accomplished in anime and manga.

C'mon, it has to be Dragon Ball. Still a household name, even for new fans.

Maybe One Piece? The series has been airing for a long time. Plus, the Netflix series for it is very popular.

You should post a link to this thread on tiktok.
One piece has a ton of episodes, that is a big divide for the young ones I talked to on discord.
Depending on the generation you cut Bleach is more popular between the older young ones.

Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion, and Death Note to a slightly lesser extent, still draw attention because they're standout works of genre fiction that are very stylish and tell interesting stories but also don't call for much familiarity with anime-specific genre conventions.

Dragonball just has immense amounts of cultural penetration, I have no idea what the breakdown of people who actually watch it is, but it's hard to be unaware of what Dragonball is if you have passing interest in manga and anime. One Piece on the other hand is the big ongoing series in shonen battle action which is the most well known genre of manga or anime, and while notorious for it's immense length it's again a fairly accessible series with a simple pitch (Pirates!) that also has a distinctive enough style to stand out from the crowd.

Bleach had more of a pull during its heyday in the 00s up to the early 10s, but it's dropped out of the conversation as the manga finished and the anime only got a very belated continuation. It's the manga I read the most of in my teens, although I lost interest when it got to the Soul Society and became just another boring action series.

I have no clue whether the kids still like Pokemon. Anyone got a child to hand they can ask?

One Piece is the most obvious since its still airing. Evangelion being the second one.

Anyone claiming other old Anime in that list being still popular among the new generation are just lying to themselves either by nostalgia or they don't know/interact new Anime fans.

-DB popularity is restricted to Latin America while in the rest of the world is just another Anime.
-Cowboy Bebop popularity is restricted to elitist fandoms.
-Naruto, Bleach, Pokemon, Death Note, YYH popularity are restricted to their fandoms.

By sheer technicality it is Pokémon as the franchise currently grosses more money than ANY other multimedia franchise in the world. On the list of the highest grossing multimedia franchises, the only other Japanese anime that is on this poll within the top 50 is Dragon Ball at number 37. In spite of all the controversy with the current state of the games, the Pokémon franchise still dominates the media landscape

One Piece easily. It has so many powerscalers, animation appreciators, and just general fans of the story while being a mainstream shonen. Dragonball comes close too but younger people like one piece most

Naruto, surprisingly.

I more than once got asked by the children I know through family whether or not I know Naruto and whether I like it.
Another surprising part is that when I say I do and that I don't like it they happily agree and are confused themselves why it is so popular among their peers.

In my country this isn't even a question, it's Pokemon 100%. All the children still know what Pokemon is, as the franchise is still releasing animes, games, toys, merch etc..
Pokemon is HUGE, the rest of the series you mention are only huge within the community.

(Oh, and Yuyu Hakusho is not big in my country at all. Sailor Moon is much bigger.)
"He isn't dead, San. He is here with us now, telling us, it's time for both of us to live."
"And slowly... You come to realize..."
"They come without asking, and then they leave just the same.
But once you meet them, even if nobody ever knows it, that encounter will change your life for the better."
