Kigeki a.k.a. Comedy (but the title would sound strange if I used that word ^^)

I watched this short OVA a while ago (thanks to a recommendation on the IRC channel, by gff), and I was pretty impressed.
In a 10minute ep. it pulled a very nice and interesting story, something that some OVA's don't manage in triple the time or even with more episodes... The art was pretty good too.. different, but good. (The swordsman reminds me of Jin without the glasses ^^)

So, it's a great quickwatch, and thus I recommend it.

eh, I saw it a while ago. 10 minute short story. Wasn't really impressed by it cuz I didn't really get much out of it other than a guy comes in and kicks everyone's ass. The End.

Was it worth my time? Well it really wasn't much time at all so...watch it anyway?

That was pretty interesting, the 'action' scene looked good. Would have potential for more. And yes, the guy looked like Jin ^^.

You can switch the language. Right click into the video frame > Filters > Kigeki_[GTW]_DVDRip_[63847D4F].mkv > English subtitles. That's how-to for MPC anyway.

That was impressive.
There were humourous parts in the middle of all the seriousness. They seemed to pull that off well.

I watched this a while ago and I was very impressed too! I live in Ireland, and so it was cool to have an anime set there (even if it meant historical accuracy went right out the window). But, aside from that superficial reason, I though Kigeki was just very well done! The art was very distinct, great voice acting and it was very compelling for something that's only 10 minutes long!

Great atmosphere, art, direction and plot. Too bad it was so short, it would have deserved a 30 minute run to develop a bit ;)

I very rarely use the term 'masterpiece', but seriously... 10/10 and no less, imo.

and isn't it called Kigeki because the swordsman can only be hired with books of comedy genre? (and he did laugh when he was reading the book that the girl brought him) I think it's the only reasonable explanation really; since the story itself isn't anywhere near comedy ^^;

Well, after hearing her granfather telling about ancient times, the girl said :"Now I understand that he was born in these times". However, I myself do not understand what these times where like as the translation in the subs is quite unclear and says: "After script was invented, there was a time when books symbolized power and laughing or speaking was considered a taboo. In the period that followed, all books of that time were burned".

So, now there are several questions: was he born in times when "laughing and speaking were forbiden"? or in times after that, when all books were burnt? and finally why comedies were written in times when laughing was forbiden? Is there anyone smart enough to answer that?
