THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Decided to check this out since all it's episodes were recently subbed and since it's the first of the world masterpiece theater anime.

Hyakkimaru's dad was an ass, wonder what Hyakkimaru looked like as a baby without 48 parts.

These old anime sure don't hold back without censorship,Hyakkimaru killing the bandits, dead rotting bodies,Dororo (a kid) getting physical beat by an adult, the one guy's face melting when the demon got him.

So did Hyakkimaru's father actually take over the country?

The OP is something I haven't heard before. Quite catchy.

Fun episode. I have several qualms with artistical choices and limited animation, but the backgrounds are a delightful view. Coming from the manga, Dororo is still this cute and charismatic little thing I appreciate seeing on screen. A darker tone, interesting storyboarding. Nice start.

Well, I haven't seen an old Anime in a very long time and what can I say, it is just like I expected it to be, on the visual level at least.
However, the sound design has something to say for itself, I'm going to keep watching for now, and expecting myself to grow fond of the vocals especially.
I'm not a big fan of how Hyakkimaru can talk right off the bat, I like how the 2019 remake handled him in that respect.
This version at least feels a bit tiny darker than the remake, maybe because of the black and white filter.

Got curious what the original looked like compared to the remake so here we are. Kinda feels like some kids anime even though it got some gruesome themes in it but stil looks good for an anime from 1969. Didn't expect Hyakkimaru to talk and see for someone who lost 48 body parts.

(English) Dororo and Hyakumaru's journey begins from now on. It's my first time watching an anime from the 60s, so it's a different feeling than what I'm used to, but the show is really captivating.

(Português) A jornada de Dororo e Hyakumaru começa a partir de agora. É a minha primeira vez vendo um anime dos anos 60, então é uma sensação diferente do que eu estou acostumado, mas o show é realmente cativante.

Very interesting concept. Cool characters. Plenty of action and gore. Nice art style. Great OP. Somewhat limited animation. Overall very good first episode.

Impressive first episode given the age.
