I think Hachi is completely forgoing the standard battle shonen start of various episodic stories and diving straight in. Your typical shonen battle manga will often start fairly slow in order to introduce all the characters and what not, with random villains of the week. That format just has not worked for the last couple of shounen battle manga debutting in SJ. They've all had really bad rankings which forced them to go into the 'serious' story arc, but then get axed shortly after. World trigger went into story and world building pretty much starting from the 1st chapter, and so far it's doing pretty well rankings wise. Hachi seems to be following suit, except this time they're ramping up the stakes right off the bat, which is a risky gamble but it just might pay off. |
