So I'm confused. I know the first movie is like a remake or summary of the first season.

And this is the sequel to the first movie. Is it still a remake/summary but this time for A's? or is it new material?

Or is it based on "looking back" from the 3rd season, those events that they talk about a bunch of times in StrikerS?

It is. There are a good number of new scenes, but it's still a remake of A's.

I also have a question. I watched Nanoha season one and didn't really care for it, and haven't seen MOVIE 1st yet. Would it be fine to watch the first movie then the second movie without ever seeing season 2, or should I watch A's first before the 2nd movie?

You can technically go straight from movie 1st to movie 2nd. And not much will be lost.

Yet, A's is a far better series than the first season. The A's movie is really good too. I'd say watch both, but it's not crucial.

I would recommend watching the first movie.
Some back ground: When the 1st anime ran, there was a companion manga that rather than summarize the anime, added additional scenes and explanations about "how stuff works." There are back ground characters that appear only in the manga and not int eh first anime. However, A's and 2ndA's assume you know about this stuff.

The first movie incorporates a lot of this information from the manga. Ultimately the 1st movie is a lot more cohesive than the original anime. It cuts out a lot of the character development for people like Nanoha's friends and family and instead goes more in depth into things that carry forward the series.

The tone of the 1st Movie is a lot different from the original anime. it is much more consistently action packed. I highly recommend watching, especially if you didn't really like the anime, but wanted to.
