If the animation is apropriate and follows some part of the manga then it's ok.

I don't care as long as I'm entertained. The idea that things have to strictly follow the source is negated by the existence of amazing things that are nothing like the books they based on.

For the majority, no, since I don't read that much manga. If I've read the manga and then watch the anime, I'd probably be bothered. In one case for example, I can't follow the anime to Naruto anymore. The way they're stretching things out and some characterizations of the characters in fillers just annoy the hell out of me.

Honestly I like it sometimes that it doesn't make you think that the story had also gone this way....

I don't care since I don't read any manga.
As long I enjoy the show, that's fine with me.

Depends. First FMA is excellent regardless of what people say, just because it does not follow the manga doesn't mean it's bad and also the author agreed and helped to make the new story. I'd expect anime to follow their manga as accurately as possible though.

Rosario+Vampire would have been better if it would have been closer to the manga. Instead they just piled up the fanservice and bring little else.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia is another one that bothered me. It felt filled up with crap most of the time and, while I did not read the manga, I gave it a look to see if there was anything different, and yes, a lot. For example the school principal has a major role in the story, in the anime it's literally a cameo. Also the setting is always at school and there is very little characters -- in the manga the main character has parents and stuff. Like one time he does not come home for a whole weekend and pretty much nobody gives a shit in the anime, in the manga everyone is distressed and it is said that his parents were worried something happened to him.

Depends.. I don't read much manga now-a-days but I used to. When I read more manga, I would usually read a series before it came out as an anime. For example, I was 100+ chapters into Skip Beat by the time it became an anime. I was so excited for it to turn into one but disappointed when it ended because it left out many good parts. However, now that I don't read much manga, I don't mind. Its nice to occasionally pick up a manga after an anime has ended.

I do care, since most of the times the anime makes shitty decisions and changes or cuts some of the stuff from the manga. There are though these rare times (Tasogare Otome x Amnesia) when the anime wasn't bad even though a few things were changed.

TD;DR - It highly depends, but most of the times change is bad.

In good writing, characters exist FOR story reasons, so if it's not the same story.... there's a huge disconnect. Make something else entirely then, I say.

A great example of characters that don't fit into a different narrative is 2003's attempt at Fullmetal Alchemist, for example.
Life can be cruel and unfair. At worst it can traumatize and cripple you. The desire for wanting things to return to the way they were can cost everything and changes nothing. The best way is to keep moving forward, struggle on.
Anger can be powerful but can only get you so far. Let people into your life even if some of them leave you in time.

What is wrong with an anime not accurately following a manga source material?
I have approximately 1 terabyte of anime on my computer.

It really depends on a case-by-case basis.

I've heard sometimes the original author might not be satisfied with the original ending (due to manga publisher politics) and would be inclined to arrange it for the anime adaptation. Looks like that could happen in the upcoming Kaguya-sama film?

Hibike Euphonium S3 is infamous for its 180-degree change in the ending which was a hot topic for debate amongst those who liked the original light novel. But I think it worked given how differently the tone was set for the anime compared to the light novel.

So I try to have an open mind and not let myself rush to judgement solely on the observation that things were changed around for the anime adaptation.

But you know, there's also this lol

It should be a completely different thing then.

Yes. If the content is good, then everything's all good and well. And if it's bad....it brings down my enjoyment of the anime (Black Butler and Claymore are big offenders of this).

No, if you want the manga then read it. In fact, anime adaptations often stick to the manga too much.

It completely depends. If I really liked the manga (or LightNovel) and the anime deviates from that to the point of me perceiving it as worse than the source material, then yes, I will dislike it. But there have been rare cases where I hated the manga and really liked the anime because it did not follow the crappy manga. There have also been instances where anime and source have done their own thing and I enjoyed both.

Generally, I'm probably more likely to be displeased if the anime deviates from the source material but it's not a rule. For the first time in years, I'm gonna watch a seasonal anime as it airs this winter season and I'll be very picky about it because it's based on one of my favourite LightNovels and the manga did not do it any justice AT ALL, so I'm really hopeful the anime does a better job.

Hikaru ga shinda natsu provides different pov and added new scenes in its adaptation. It's great and still the same in its essence. Actually it made everything better.

Most of the time, i prefer manga over anime. Especially when the animation is lacking or in worst case, a literal powerpoint. Im wasting my time watching something for 24 minutes when i could just finish it in less than 5 minutes by reading the manga.

I do want to watch every anime adaptation of the mangas i've read. But with so little movement and cut content... i just don't feel like doing it anymore. Sleeping is better.... and healthier.... i don't wanna stay up late watching awful adaptations of things i love.

As a general rule I'd like shows to follow the source material as closely as possible, but no adaptation is ever going to be a literal 1:1 because of tight runtime. Sometimes anime changes make the story better, but I feel like that's the exception and not the rule.

I use to but i think after reading the soul eater manga i changed my mind along as it's not a complete butchery of the original sometimes the anime story like in the example of soul eater is just as good if not better than the actual manga ending.

To make a long story short, I don't care if an anime doesn't accurately follow the manga source material (besides, it is impossible to accurately follow it).
I have approximately 1 terabyte of anime on my computer.
