I'm glad Jimbei got Luffy's head on straight. The loss of Ace was something that absolutely broke him. Luffy is defined by his ability to not slow down and always move forward, no matter what's happening to him. But for awhile there, since Ace died until now he was immobile, he was unable to move. Jimbei steered his sight forward and told him to not just think about that which he cannot change but to think about what he still has and it gave him the ability to move again. To move with a goal in mind.
Rayleigh swam to Luffy's side. The casual nature of him swimming through the Calm Belt reminded me of Aokiji biking over the ocean to get to Robin, lol!! He made a good point, if Kuma didn't literally save their lives they would have been slaughtered without a chance to fight back. Rayleigh and Kuma teamed up to save their lives. Without them, he would have been too weak, so weak he would have lost his nakama and Ace. So, it seems he's offering him some training, maybe some training on how to actively use his haki so he can at least stand a chance against the dangerous logia he will continuously come across. Garp trained Luffy when he was young, we had some brief Naguri training although I think that was filler, and lastly he trained himself with Ace and Sabo through their tough living conditions. This could be really good for him. I wonder what Rayleigh's motivations are in this, he did see Roger in Luffy after all and Shanks passed on his hat and arm for his sake, so that could be it!
And to touch on Kuma, this episode added a fair bit to him. Rayleigh knew where Luffy was because of Kuma's words, he said he was saving them as a revolutionary because he had a connection to them. He then later visited Rayleigh, Roger's 2nd in command, which is quite the meeting of powerful people and told him the direction he sent Luffy. Also notably he mentioned that he didn't have long. This all indicates a few things to me: - He was acting as a revolutionary even back when he saved Luffy's crew.
- He didn't have much time as he was committing to losing his mind and becoming a tool for the government as Doflamingo said.
- This also suggest something interesting, why would he not tell Rayleigh where he sent Luffy exactly? He sent the cyborg to Vegapunk, he sent Sanji to the place of Okama kenpo, he sent Zoro to Mihawk, there is no way these are coincidence, is there?
- He also meticulously took everyone from Luffy before his eyes and saved him for last to make a point to Luffy about how strong he will need to get to face the New World in my eyes.
I think the theory that he is sacrificing his body and mind alongside Vegapunk and on revolutionary orders to slowly attack the government from the inside with a trojan horse of Pacifista's seems like the most likely outcome right now. Perhaps he is known as Tyrant Kuma because he acted cruel to make a name for himself outside of the revolutionaries as to become a Warlord. I can't imagine they would accept him otherwise, a revolutionary is too big of a threat.
The crew must feel awful and Usopp is definitely not an exception. Not only do they want to be there for Luffy now but I feel the crew probably feels they failed him. He always fights for their sake, and in this just as he was too weak, they were too weak to fight for him and be there to stop Ace from dying. Usopp's fatness didn't take away from this at all, he was so admirable and touching. Usopp may need to find the courage to fight but when it comes to fighting for his friends he goes for it, we saw it at Alabasta when he fought for Luffy's dream, or when he screamed to get Luffy to wake up in Water 7. This must feel quite tortuous for Usopp to, like he's failed, and that he needs to get back to Luffy's side as soon as possible. I hope Heracles'n helps Usopp get off this man eating plant. This Stomach Baron is quite awesome in how it lures in sea kings and creatures alike them to then scoop them up and eat them. |
