i know its a bit narrow topic but i can image not many people know much about Turkish progressive scene so here i go with some recommendations. well i did not include any rapidshare link but put a myspace link to some of them, i may include rapidshare links if it is not forbidden, anyways it is not really not hard to find them in the internet through search engines;

you all probably know progarchieves so i will start with there; there are only two Turkish prog bands included in the www.progarchives.com ;

1) Nekropsi; they have created maybe the finest Turkish prog album ever. their debut album called "Mi Kubbesi" is by far the best piece released in Turkey; http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=5768
it's tagged as Prog metal in prog archieves, but i personally tag it as psychedelic rock. and it contains much more, even some post rock roots. anyways their second album, released in 2007 is not as good as the first one, and contains lots of different styles, it is even more close to electronic and krautrock. They are a great band and you should definitely check their first album. http://www.myspace.com/nekropsinekropsi

2) Asiaminor; they are half French and half Turkish, but more of a Turkish band even though they released their only two albums in France in early 80s. They a have classy sound very similar to Camel. and as you can imagine they do Symphonic Rock. Their second album is highly recommended and if you are a heavy Anglagard, Camel and Yes listener, you will enjoy this band for sure. http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=528

well the other bands and albums i will include are not well known word wide between progheads, but they are must heard.

3) 21. Peron; They have made only one album in 1975, sound like Beatles psychedelia, with some more proto-prog influence. they have also performed a show with Embryo during their Eastern Europe tour in mid 70s. they were pretty rare until early 2000s when a proghead and a radio programmer, found their records in the achieves of radio TRT (Turkey's first radio station) and remastered the album.

4) Barış Manço; He was a public figure for Turkish people and he had a really big influence in the development of Turkish music. He tried many different styles but he has one particular album that really rocks. its called "Yeni Bir Gün" released in 1979. it is symphonic rock and you can fell its importance while watching; it has pure symphonic songs, psychedelic rock pieces, ethnic ballads, even some Can influence in the last track. this album is one of the greatest piece of music i have ever listened.

5) Dandadadan; new and already dismissed with one album leaving behind in 2006. they are pure psychedelic, with jazz influence. they do not use guitars. instead with heavy usage of saxophone and keyboards. even some keyboard compositions really tastes electronic. you probably will not understand much, but their lyrics are also magnificent. they are, too, really different and highly recommended to hardcore pyschedelic listeners. There was the band called "Tamburada", it is a pre-dandadadan band using female vocal with english lyrics, playing alternative jazz, their songs include parody rhythms and saxophone solos. you must try their "Merdiven" song. http://www.last.fm/music/DANdadaDAN/Sen+Bana+Biri+Android

6) Gevende; i dont really know how to explain these guys; they are pyschedelic, ethnic, jazzy, with some blues pieces... but nothing like anything similar. but they use more of ethnic sounds so i dont really know if this band will catch you but you should definitely give it a try if you think you are a proghead. they are my favorite too, so give double patience and interest ^^. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=90695930

7) Hayvanlar Alemi; they are post-rock, more of ulver sound like. i did not really payed much attention to them but they are some sort of a new-wave-Turkish-prog-rock movement with Kafabindünya, Replikas, Babazula. okay okay a made up the movement thing, but i must admit that they are not really worth paying much attention, although you might like Babazula, if you are open to different taste, 'cause it is ethnic psych or something.

8) Levent Yüksel; he is not progressive but a good pop musician with interesting bass compositions. but he does Rush covers in live performances, so he rocks. you can find some performances in youtube i guess ^^

9) Yavuz Çetin; he is Turkish Jimi Hendrix. i am not joking, he was a marvelous blues rock musician but committed suicide years ago. you can also find him in youtube. check it out.

Damn, nice information. I might make a similar thread about Danish prog. I know some Israeli prog and I think some Arabic prog. But I don't think I've ever heard any Turkish. Have to check this out!

Hot damn. This looks pretty amazing. Must keep this forum in mind when I'm in the mood for some more Prog to 'purchase.'
We're all awash in a sea of blood, and the least we can do is wave to each other.
