I watched this for the first time in 2010. I decided to revisit it again because I was sure my younger self was too dumb to comprehend this anime fully. Boy, was this the best decision I've made! I loved every single bit of this. The story is well-paced and I was intrigued by how it will end. It did not disappoint.

That was a very entertaining anime. I heard mixed opinions about it before watching. Some people liked it a lot, some disliked it, for various reasons. I decided to not go into details and just watch it without any biases or expectations. I can say I utterly enjoyed this show. It had some flaws, but they got neutralized by all the good stuff Ergo Proxy offered as an anime.

I am not impressed nor disappointed, I thought the show was ok, nothing special. I liked the evolution of Vincent and Re-I throughout the show nonetheless, it was memorable in some parts but it wasn't enough for me, let's see how this show evolves inside of me with the pass of the time but right now it is a 4/10.

Damn, never expected this to be my only 5th 10/10. I did realize this show's brilliances after my first watch but seems that wasn't right enough.

I still have some questions tho. Like the Rapture nuke that Raul launched and where did it actually hit.

@TRC_Randy

When they got to Mosko Re-L mentioned Romdo being reponsible for it's destruction, She probably recognized the light as the nuke since she knew about the project.

@bevsie so that Rapture hit Mosk and that the dome wasn't actually fully destroyed by Romdeau when they took Monad?

@TRC_Randy

I can't say for sure if the dome was still there or not after they took Monad, but I presume that the dome was either weakened or destroyed based on the cities need for a proxy. Either way Rapture certainly was responsible for the craters that covered Mosko.

Thrilling anime. It nails the atmosphere it set out with and doesn't really falter in it much, and provides at least adequate characterisation to just about everyone in an effort to cement its thoughtful and multifaceted story. The psychological aspects, while esoteric at times, were still interesting to observe to an attentive viewer. The only apparent flaws it has is what does seem like an excessive revolution around Vincent, and a small portion of bizarre episodes that destroyed your immersion in the watch, but these weren't dealbreakers.

What an episode? What a finale?

The ultimate question of Who and What is the Ergo Proxy in a way was finally answered. So many complex themes, so many allegories, so much emotion yet so much concern for the real world issue. Even it's final arc, this anime refuses to confine itself to a single theme. Truly a masterful piece of art. For full context on what exactly it was going for, I'm sure I'm going to need numerous details, but even then I'm sure I'll miss some. Masterful writing through and through.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ๐ŸŽฌ

Here we are at the end of Ergo Proxy and what a journey this was, with plenty of amazing and mind bending episodes throughout. Though episode 16 is still my personal favourite this finale was pretty good.

Throughout this anime along with coming to the finale I thought it was gonna end on a much sadder/darker tone though I'm glad it didn't because I loved this ending. Im glad everyone got there happy ending though its sad that Raul didn't get to see his daughter Pino one last time and the way he went out was truly tragic. May he rest in peace.

I'm glad Vincent won I thought they were gonna end each other though I guess Vincent is just better and it was nice to see him return to Re-l in the end. I loved the end part with Pino picking up Re-l that part at the end made me quite happy and it was very cute.

In the end this series was very worth it.

It was one of my favorite shows in the past but now that i look at it objectively, it really isnt that good nor my favorite anymore. Truth is that i liked that atmosphere and Re-l but the whole package of the anime, which is are mostly filled with episodes where there are pretentious attempts at philosophy really brings down the quality of it (even in the interactions between some characters that pretentiousness seeps). Instead of focusing on that, it could have been more dedicated to the characters or atleast dedicated to exposing well the plot (the plot is really simple, just revealed in cryptic ways).

@INoLuv

Saying pretentious and "objectively" without explainig anything is the laziest way to criticise a show and it's hard to take you seriously when you have Code Geass and Highscool Dxd in your favorites. And the plot is adequately exposed so I don't know what you mean.

@JoeChip ergo proxy was on my favorite in place of highschool dxd, it is temporary (it is a fun show but incomplete and half-baked, since it is an abandoned adaptation of the light novel so i cant enjoy something that incomplete), i am thinking on what to put in place of it and i was even going to put ergo proxy back because there is no other show i like as much so far (there are some but i have to rewatch). Code geass is permanent there though because i simply like it a lot, despite its flaws. Not deep. I lnow code geass is very flawed itself and i can criticize, i am just doing it to ergo proxy here. I dont intend to be a serious mighty seinen critic.

Ergo proxy was on my favorite but after rewatching it (this is my fourth time rewatching it), i just wish it had more to it, since i loved a lot of episodes of it. The plot is exposed well enough, i simply stated my dislike for the philosophical elements the show show tried to go for and that i think it wasnt good and could have been replaced by more character interactions. Again, i was going to put it back as my fav again today but i feel less motivated now just because of your reply and the "gotcha" attitude because of highschool dxd, irrelevant attitude because i am talking about ergo proxy. Also, what criteria i have for my favorites is purely personal and based on my enjoyability (interpret that on hundreds of ways) and feel, not on top tier objective serious writing criteria (writing is one of the ways i can enjoy). The philosophical attempts of EP made me enjoy it less compared to the character interactions, atmosphere and special feel it gives off, in the past i used to just see it as an aesthetic flavour to enhance the feel of the show (like with NGE) but now it did sour a bit.

So that is it, it isnt as good as i thought of it years ago though not bad at all. Still quite special. I dont intend to go in depth in here anyway so i know that.

Edit: Reflecting more on this series, i still stand by what i said, which other user also thought as well. So much screen time that could have been given to the cast of characters and worldbuilding is spent in philosophical attempts that could have been implemented better to the story because the plot is pretty simple (the relation between proxies with humanity and the conflict that ergo proxy goes through for what happened between him and monad, as well as the problems vincent face and etc). Or maybe is jusy me wanting more of it. It is a great show, this is just criticism-rant. It is great that the show tries to be many things though. I was too harsh in my opinion too haha

ahh !! a subdued take on creator-creation dynamic which is woefully directed ,stretched, probably to hide the numerous glaring holes in the narrative and its inexistence altogether.A hotpotch of nothing really

I've watched Ergo Proxy in its entirety at least 1,901,112 times. Finally, after the 1,901,113th time I now understand the plan of the original humans and it is absolutely despicable. I sincerely hope that sly smile with glowing eyes as he acknowledges himself as the Agent of Death means that he's about to go full, hog, ham on the original humans that are returning to Earth!

Go get'em, Ergo Proxy!

What a wild ride this show was, I haven't gotten this invested in an anime for a while. I'm a big fan of Witch Hunter Robin and I was hesitant to watch this because I was afraid I wouldn't like it as much as I did WHR, but I ended up liking it way more than I imagined! Even more than WHR.

I'm so glad nothing happened to Pino, she might not have gotten to see papa Raul but he lives on in Kristeva's duty being a motherly figure and guardian. Then she saves Re-l and reunites everyone, happy ending. If they killed her off I was gonna flip, cue sigh of relief at the end.

But goddamn I feel so cucked. I wanted to see Re-l and Vincent do that sideways monster mash so bad! The most we got was a kiss and some fanservice. Yeah, they're probably gonna go do it sometime after the ending and the slaughter of all those creators. Yeah, there's also a possibility sex doesn't exist in a normal fashion thanks to "model citizens" and the artificial wombs (I'm thinking like in 1984). But I wanted to SEE IT ON-SCREEN!! ARGH!!!!! I NEEDED THE VALIDATION!!

Although to be fair, after watching WHR...

My only other gripe was that I wish there were a few more episodes in-between some parts, it felt like too big of a time gap sometimes going into a new episode.

This is how I'm feeling right now:

The story could have ended much worse, but I think they managed to pull it off alright.

A lot of big reveals that didn't seriously break the story or contradict what I've seen. Pretty interesting. Many details were confusing and only mentioned in passing, but it was mostly expected, based on how the anime told its story so far. I have a problem with their decision to wrap it up in 3 episodes, but considering that, they used the runtime to the fullest.

Some big ideas. I'm still in a daze and unsure how they fit inside what actually happened, but it didn't exactly feel like they were just pulling those ideas out of thin air; they felt like they were built-up and have always been present in the writer's head. At the very least, I like how it flirted with topics like a higher power, creator vs creation, reason for being, fate, despair, choosing your truth.

It was a visual feast for sure. Fairly memorable imagery and shots. I think it mostly worked on an emotional level, too. It was just plain nice to see the 3 of them (plus Kristeva) live on, in a more sunlit world.

As someone mentioned, it reminds me a lot of the philosophical parts of the Matrix sequels, which I appreciate and respect more than most people, I think.

Overall, an absolutely worthwhile experience. There should be more anime like this that swing for the fences.

...This show tops itself every single episode on weirdness. Re-l 2 had wings and could fly? Someone explain. It seems crazy, but given how Re-l 2 is wearing white and has wings, it almost seems like the original Re-l represents dark, and Re-l 2 represents light.

I will say, Re-l 2 has great assets.

Deadalus getting rejected by Re-l 2 made me so happy. Dude was so damn weird.

I still feel so sad for Raul and Pino. Wish they had been reunited.

Watching Kristeva run was hilarious. Her becoming Pino's autoreiv was perfect!

I'm sad, but also not that the show is over. I'll explain more in my review.
