@RobertBobert The chances of any of them getting proper sequels is slim unless another studio does it which is very unlikely.
@0451 Do you think that even after high critical praise, it's still a very niche anime?

@RobertBobert Depends on what you mean by niche. And it's not about being niche or popular. KyoAni doesn't seem to be interested in making sequels of these kinds of shows.

@0451 Well, a couple of months ago someone tried to convince me that CGDCT is a niche genre, lmao. I don't know what their plans are, but I think they're desperate for new franchises that could become cash cows.

I don't know how else this anime could have been sent off.

Just as crazy as any of the previous episode, yet it still caught me off guard with the last sequence lmao.

Wonderful finale, really hope we get a season 2. Was by far the best show this season, and I wish Wako was my wife.

Got the bittersweet ending to Ecchan moving to England...followed by a wonderful musical bout a star that wasn't actually a Michelin star xD

No other way you could end this series without it being utter random chaos involving everyone. Hope that we can get second season of this and/or potentially episodes of the cut stories I saw others mentioning previously. Also hope that the Amazon Prime exclusivity didn't tank it's views too much :S

They went with a long musical end, lol

And it all started out with a "fake star".

.

Also got a "see you somewhere in summer" message followed by Arabic letters in the End Credits...

Being random til the very last second, truly the most random anime series ever.

The animation quality was absolutely stunning. so fluid and expressive, exactly what you'd expect from Kyoto Animation at their best. The sound design was top-notch, and the voice actors delivered fantastic performances that brought every moment to life.

It’s been a while since I’ve watched something in the animation medium that felt this delightful. You can clearly see how much hard work and heart the entire team poured into this project. The musical sequence in the last episode was excellent, and the race episode is easily my favorite so far.

The show has been an absolute joy to watch. The animation has left me speechless, just amazing. I loved every bit of it.

the gag with Wako casualy walking into the river and sinking was the best, but to be honest every single scene with Wako in it was golden.

Astonishing animation, style and energy. But the humor and the characters were wildly inconsistent, often pretty boring.

I respect it. It's just a shame I can't wholeheartedly like it or recommend it.

the final episode had so much more effort in it than the rest of the show lol

corporatization and monetary constraints really starving us of higher quality art

at least kyoto animation still does better than almost everyone else at it

love the show anyway

So the last episode was mostly a musical, that's fun. I'm glad they were able to tie up the plot point between Eri and Matsuri. That was always something that lingered in the background whenever you saw them, because you knew Eri was going to move away at some point.

Overall, City is a visually stunning. Its vibrant colors, an art style that looks as if it was drawn exclusively with thick, colorful markers, and designs reminiscent of children's books; this was something I couldn't get enough of, visually speaking. KyoAni really outdid themselves with this one.

But when it comes to the main driving force of the series, the comedy, it's hit and miss. It definitely made me laugh, but some jokes are a total slog to get through, going minutes too long, or they just plain miss. The comedy style is very Japanese, so some jokes can go right over your head if you don't know exactly what they're referring to or parodying. I always enjoy whimsical, silly, and chaotic comedic tones, so it remained fun despite the frequent unfunny jokes. At least the cast was charming, unique, and full of strange quirks that helped flesh them out.

Because of the somewhat middling comedy, I can only give this as high as a 7. The visuals did a lot of heavy lifting here, but I still find this a worthwhile watch.

See you in another summer, City!

It was a blast for sure but I can't help but think the manga was a more memorable and enjoyable experience. There's a lot of missing content and so many characters are cut short and have very little screen-time. I was kinda expecting to be different anyway but these are the type of changes that make the adaptation worse then the source material. The animation, bright colors, and the energetic humor saves quite a lot of the anime. Not sure if I should give it a 9 or 8/10, either way it's a very cute gag humor series.
Long live KyoAni!

See you in the summer somewhere.
