The last bout between Necronomico and Tick Tock Man to save or destroy humanity, with the latter evolved into a kaiju, the last game/stage hangs in the balance.

Against the evolved kaiju Nyarla, Miko having Cthulhu to even out Azathoth's game with the many iterations of the Neo Geo controller joystick powering through the very setting that's exactly the premise of SNK's King of the Monsters game, it's truly a fight to the very end being the only player holding the hopes of humanity in her gamer hands, alongside Kanna who gives her a helping hand, alongside Kei with the Elder Hand thereafter.

All Hunter Joe was here for, is the total act to mobilize all exorcists like a head onmyoji to subdue Tick Tock Man, which he and Kei did the aid alright since their day off, signalling the win to humanity and restoring Earth as it'd been before their arrival. Even Mayu waking up from her slumber, and the world reverts back to normal, not without the same group of players living the same lives as it had been, as much as Kei's time at Megalox is only beginning, and both Miko and Mayu are back to having fun livestreaming together again.

Honestly, quite a rushed ending for an original series. A decent attempt by CyGames, but this is clearly no Apocalypse Hotel (from last season).

They use over the rainbow as ED song this time, such a classic song, it's also match a hyper-happy ending, seriously I love this kind of good ending where no one died. Though the fate of those gods are still unknown, I assume they're very hard to die, and they even have the power to revive and reverse so I'm not gonna worry about their fate that much.

Anyway, this is the anime for people that love a colorful action-scifi cyberpunk like Akudama Drive and Tribe Nine, though Necronomico is more like a virtual punk than cyberpunk, the definition of virtual punk doesn't exist yet but I can already put this anime into that list LOL.

And one of the most interesting thing about Necronomico is that it's the original story, no mixed media planned at this point, I'm not sure how are they gonna profit from this but I applaud for their bravery to produce original anime in the sea full of adaptation.

So, was this really yuri like I speculated during the first episode or did people put something in GL stacks based on shipping again? Just don't tell me that it's actually because of Cthulhu and not the main characters...

If there was a kiss I would have given it a 10, but it's a 9 and that's thanks to the last episode, so it would have been a 7, but overall the characters are interesting, although some are not fully developed, Mayuu is a cutie, both in human form and with Cthulhu, and yes, the meme didn't happen, the hunter turned out to be useful, as a Cthugha, with Kei she had a special atmosphere.

@RobertBobert No, but yes, considering Mayu's behavior and her influence when she was under Cthulhu's control and the kiss, it's yuri, although there was no kiss at the end, they just held hands.

@ShiroAlex So, as I understand it, in the end its turned into a regular original female-focused show with some yuri bait at certain moments (which will later be quickly forgotten) to raise the hype?

Overall I really liked it. It was a very original concept, I liked the characters and even the stylized animation and I don't think it deserves the hate it got because of the issue with the subtiles in the first episode. The one thing I don't like about the ending is that all of a sudden Miko is all buddy-buddy with Eita. Even if her winning the game means she erased everything he did IN THE GAME, that still doesn't erase the fact that he is a psychopath who MURDERED someone in real life.

@RobertBobert I wouldn't say that it's completely forgotten, but I would like more, because for example I won't criticize people who think this is a show with some yuri bait, although I think a little differently, because their backstory is told, the behavior of one of the personalities speaks far from friendly feelings, but here there would be another episode for such a crumpled ending.

@ShiroAlex I can't say anything objectively, since I've only watched the first episode so far and want to finish the whole show in one go when I have some free time. But on the surface, the last episode seemed like everyone suddenly became friends again "and the adventure continues" without any hint of romance or anything. It's like the show just went back to the status quo of the first episode, but in a more positive way.

Well, maybe there was a hint of a sequel, but maybe that's a subtle advertisement for some game based on it. I checked Japanese Wikipedia and it's silent, just calling Miya MC's streaming partner and her childhood friend.

But again, trying to find some info without watching the show itself is a thankless task. Because I need context to start talking about something.

@Kali_85 From their dialogue it is clear that this was also corrected and there was no murder as a result.

Have to give them credit for tying the loose ends together. Except for the Wizard of Oz reverence.

Not the worst show a bottom feeder for me.
At least it held my interest to see it played out.

What a nice monster battle that was and gosh the pixel imagery makes me wish they used it more often in the anime lmao
8/10 love "ambitious" type anime like these every once in a while, only kind of complaint I have is certain contestants getting less of a thought out backstory than others but I guess that comes with these death game shows (especially with the 12 ep limit) also the old one designs were sick as fuck i loved every single one of them <3

If we're being honest, as decent as the final fight scene was, I feel like they kinda dropped the ball with Tick Tock Man's death scene (why did they have to throw in an eyecatch before his death scene, anyway?), Miko's reunion with Mayu, and the ending. And yes, I too am peeved that Eita got off easy. Never mind the fact that he literally tried to kill Miko and the others during the game, or that he committed murder in his backstory, and even formed a doomsday cult inspired by Hastur. And yet all of a sudden he's now friends with Miko? Really goes to show anime really loves letting off the worst kind of scum so easily.

I enjoyed it, I was hoping that Eita would be Tick Tock Man’s controller 🎮 like Miko to Cthulhu 🎮, so they would have a final showdown, bastard got off easy but losing an 👁️ will have to suffice even though he deserve worst.

The final battle had a few too many plot conveniences in it for my tastes but it was an enjoyable episode none-the-less. I like that they were able to wrap everyone's story up fairly nicely and it's amusing that Eita and Miko seem to have formed something of a friendship. That little scene with the streamer that Cthugha inhabited makes me wonder if they were setting up for a potential sequel, I dunno they just held on that shot for a little too long for it to be nothing in my mind.

WHAT WAS THAT ENDING, ES LIKE ALL THE SHITTY CHARACTERS DIDN'T FACE JUSTICE. and everything just felt like it came out of sheer nowhere, and who is that white hair dude, they never fully explained him. also they pushing for a romance that doesn't exist. the only good part of this is the yuri

Well that was an ending LOL.
I feel that it could have been something more if they toned down the color and upped the horror elements. It isn't like anime can't do some genuine horror.
In the end I feel the reason it hasn't had much success is because fans of the Cthulhu Mythos must have been disappointed (I know I was), horror enthusiasts are going to be put off by the visuals and the lame game elements and everyone else was probably like- WTF?

@thewiru they are elder outer gods, their avatars got vanquished but it'd take more than that to kill one.

@RobertBobert For some reference point it is less yuri than Watanare airing this season, and arguably more yuri than Bad Girl though I would say that is because the nature of death game plots. You are on the right track when it comes to its ending being ehh, but that is also because of the nature of death game related plots, it is hard to wrap up well.

@six20 I haven't seen Bad Girl, but from what I've heard about the manga, it's one of those yuri bait stories where you're seems to following a straight-up yuri, but for some reason none of the characters call things by their proper names (classic approach from Manga Time Kirara during the Comics Girls era). Anyway, I'll try to watch it before October and give my opinion. I'm a lifelong Lovecraft geek, but from what I understand, it's more of an homage than an actual Cthulhu setting.

Well, this anime didn't deserve the hate from its starting episode and on his globality, he was cool to watch and I took a good time on watching it but this "friendly always win" ending is maybe too "lazy" but the worst part of this is maybe that : It was sooooooo predictable! When this anime starts I say to myself "okay the end is gonna be a game for the life of all the players" and yeah, of course that's it!

For what it's worth, Nakanohito Genome, while also pretty bad, was still miles better than this.

Here we got a few interesting ideas and dozens of stupid ones. 3/10.

I so wish this concept had had a better execution than this. The whole series felt like a 90s tokusatsu but not in a good way. So much could have been done with this concept but it turned out shallow and pasted together. And in the final ep here, everything was SUPER rushed, and there were some serious levels of jank in the animation. (Not as bad as in Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer, but still janky.)

I don’t regret watching it, but it’s a disappointing execution.

I wanted to see the other streamers whose bodies were stolen/copied by the Great Old Ones. Like who were Hastur and Bird-Head-Guy's bodies based on and what kind of streamers are they?

Uhh overall this show was pretty mid, I liked the premise but the characters and even the games they played were really simple and flat. Miko started to annoy me with how she was angry and screaming all the time and repeating the same insults etc. The Old Ones themselves were the most entertaining part of the show.
