The Gintama Maruchibasu Festival announced an anime movie adapting the Yoshiwara Enjou-hen (Yoshiwara In Flames arc) with new animations on Saturday. The official website also revealed a teaser visual (pictured) and a teaser trailer. The movie adapting Hideaki Sorachi's action comedy manga is scheduled to open in Japanese theatres in 2026.

Staff
Director: Naoya Andou (Paradox Live the Animation)
Supervision: Youichi Fujita (Gintama director)
Screenplay: Taku Kishimoto (Ousama Ranking)
Character Design, Chief Animation Director: Shinji Takeuchi (Gintama)
Studio: Bandai Namco Pictures
Distribution: Warner Bros. Pictures

Sorachi serialized the original Gintama manga in Weekly Shounen Jump from December 2003 to September 2018. The manga then transferred to Jump Giga and ran for three consecutive issues from December 2018 to February 2019. The last few chapters were released on the official Gintama app from May to June 2019.

Viz Media licensed the manga in English in 2006 and released the first 23 volumes from July 2007 to August 2011.

The first television anime produced by Sunrirse aired 201 episodes from Spring 2006 to Winter 2010, followed by six seasons between 2011 and 2018, several original video anime, original net anime, and movies. The final installation in the franchise, Gintama: The Final (Gintama: The Very Final) movie, opened in Japanese theaters in January 2021.

Original Gintama has completely ended, so they adapt any spin-offs to extend the life of the franchise?

@RobertBobert No, it is part of 20th anniversary of gintama project. This is natural for these anniversaries projects to get some type of spin off or remake. Also this movie is an yoshiwara in flames arc reimagining of the arc that was in both original manga and the anime adaptation.
