I only started watching it a few days ago, it's interesting to me kinda reminds me of The Quintessential Quintuplets and a less funny Nisekoi.

I'm digging it for the time being as I kinda miss watching anime romcoms, it's been a while for me.

Is the low rating because of Sachi? Just curious because a 6.87 kinda makes feel like it's not that great.

The low rating is because the story goes nowhere. Hell, the manga is still going and the story still has not gone anywhere.

It has low rating because there’s no development — it’s just going nowhere for 24 episodes straight. Literally nothing happens.

I don't understand the people saying nothing happened. A lot of things happened. What did they expect? A conclusion in 12 episodes? That's just not the nature of this show.

I think it deserves a low 7 personally

the main story takes longer to progress then most romantic shows. If you're satisfied with shenanigans that characters engage in you'll like it. The problem is a lot of people don't care about shenanigans, get invested in the main plot instead and end up frustrated. I'll leave it up to you if those people are justified, personally I love every minute of it. "It's about the journey, not the destination" kind of story

I read the manga and like somebody said earlier the story still takes its time

I’ll give you an honest answer.

The MAL rating is useless and irrelevant, not worth paying attention to. Just watch whatever you like and rate however you think. That’s what I do. Most of the anime I like are rated low and the ones I disklike are rated high.

This anime is enjoyable and fun to watch. I found it entertaining throughout the entire anime, beginning to end. A lot happened in the anime and it was fun.

It is low rating because most MAL users don’t realize that this is just the first season and only began to set up the plot, hence why it feels like nothing much has happened.

But really, a lot did happen, it is just not what they wanted to happen, so they give up on it.

They are all stuck on “it should have been more”, meanwhile they missed what actually happened in the anime.

I don’t know how people can watch anime with this constant negative attitude toward every anime that is not exactly what they want.

The more I hear complaints on here about anime, I the more I feel like saying to these people, “You don’t like it, then do it yourself”, since their standards for anime are far beyond comprehension.
ejleonMay 4, 7:11 PM
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

the funny stuff is not that funny, the cute moments are not that cute. It's one of those shows that you watch every week hoping something will happen but it never does, so you're left waiting for it to end. Would never rewatch, wouldn't have ever watched to begin with had I known how stale it was.

note, I don't mean literally nothing happens, obviously. Just nothing significant/interesting. The average person's real life day to day is more interesting.

The rating is high indeed, this anime is complete garbage after episode 12, all the characters become insufferable and the plot goes nowhere.

Rating is absolutely justified; this anime is an annoying, tedious, boring slog that turns a serious issue into laughs and then spits on people in the same situations.

@Aritree Nah, how can anyone hate on Kimi ni Todoke??

There perhaps would have been more angst in the series if the MC was slightly different but he has the balls to be up front and confess to Saegawa pretty much right from the start and not fret about it.

I thought perhaps the low rating was due to Sachi's brother-complex feelings which I think are being egged on by Amano's father (The Hotel King) but people are just upset with the show because it's slow and the preconceived notion of it being "stale".

I'm finding enjoyment in it because it has been a while since I watched an anime romcom.

Someone said "not looking for an ecchi", that's a pretty low standard for ecchi, I don't think there's much ecchi to this anime.

My rating for this would be a 7.5 out of 10, so 8 over here, I don't think I can give this a 9 though. It's not like a serious romance drama like Suzuka and it perhaps isn't as funny as Nisekoi (manga finished with the anime only adapting about less than half of the manga), however, it's reminding me of how much I do enjoy romance animes.

I've been watching a lot of K-Dramas for the past decade compared to anime (literally watched no anime during that time apart from a select few) and most are about romance but the medium has been incrdibly stale for the past couple of years and was the main reason I was spurred on to have an anime binge of which I'm enjoying every moment.

Currently only have 2 episodes left of the anime to watch and now to figure out what I should watch next.

I watched this, I also read the manga and all in all it's not that bad, but...It could be so much better. Most of characters are nice and funny, but they're the only reason the show reaches the 6 I gave it. The plot is bad written and kinda confused, always making you feel like is going nowhere fast.

So I think it does not deserves more than a 6

I hear the cries about this anime, this probably wasn't great to watch week by week as everyone is saying not much genuinely happens apart from them trying to figure themselves out. Whereas, I have been bingeing it so the pacing seems smooth to me and just found out that the last English scanlation of the manga happened 2 years ago, which was chapter 155 but there are Spanish and French scanlations up to chapter 247 (that is a sad state of affairs). The first season of the anime only covered 60 chapters with a few chapters skipped.

I guess in hindsight, in terms of MAL, the rating might not come off as "bad". MAL has a rating of 7.17 for Suzuka and 7.07 for Love Hina, kinda shocking because I remember those animes having a higher rating over here.

i agree. Kimi Ni Todoke is adorable.

Also, if you like rom-com and romance anime in general, you should check out my list. I've seen a lot of them. Two of the best probably being Snow White with the Red Hair and Yona of the Dawn. The Snow White one is completed and although they only made 2 seasons on Yona, the manga is still ongoing and they really need to revive it. It has the fan base and the content for them to do it but apparently not the funds. My bone to pick with the people who made the anime though is they made Hak skinny. He's not like a muscle bound freak or anything, but he's definitely muscularly built in the manga.

Anywho, since I only saw the topic anime once back when it came out, I don't remember too too much but your description seems accurate to what I do remember.

I just finished it and kinda feel conflicted when reading some of these comments, I felt the pace was fine, perhaps Erika's feelings were not really delved into because they've not really developed at all, she's passive because we know her heart is currently somewhere else but she appreciate Nagi's presence. It's a different story with Hiro though but also a bit weird at the same time, like she knows he likes her but is also giving out signals that she wants him all to herself, does Nagi need to just confess again and will she accept or does he have to beat her in 9 to 10 more exams?

I enjoy the characters and I like the pace of it, I don't think it's necessarily that slow. I also think that Hotel King deliberately swapped them or a hand in getting them swapped by bribing the hospital staff because he talks about cuckoos at one point, like he wanted one of his children to be deliberately brought up in a poor household or just have a different upbringing in general since cuckoos are known as brood parasites.

I'm giving this series a 8.5/10, so an 8 on MAL.

@shafin-san My bad habit is I often get to like the penultimate episode or like a couple episodes before it ends of an anime or K-Drama/J-Drama and I go to something else without finishing said series.

There are so many mangas that slog you through the story with 300+ chapters, Rent-A-Girlfriend is one of them as well. Skip Beat is still going on but that's a classic.

I would argue that a 6.87 is fairly positive. There's not a lot that this one did differently than the shows you mentioned. For an average story like this it probably deserves worse.

The show promises you a romance, but you're stuck with a slice of life with a romance subplot that goes nowhere. I made the mistake of reading the manga, and I gotta say... That romance REALLY doesn't go anywhere.

It started off strong and had an interesting premise, but quickly turned into a snoozefest and started dragging on and on. It fully deserves the low score. I highly doubt it'll ever get a season 3, and even if it does, nothing will happen in that season as well. For contrast, in Kaguya-sama
Cuckoos is 100 chapters further and there's still no development

The show is hot garbage and not in a way that says, "Look at that dumpster fire, I just can't stop watching it." More like this is hot garbage; it smells disgusting, and I cannot get away fast enough. It's a 4 at best for the story, but a 6 for the animation. There are so many better manga and anime that have done more than this show has with fewer episodes or pages, and it's a better watch experience. This show is not "Skip Beat", it can't go around in circles for that long, and have there be no progress made.
