in one of the first eps when Gintoki talked about tetris, " Were you up all night playing tetris? " , that's the first time I laughed whilst watching it

For me there wasn't a specific episode. Since I watched a lot of episodes in a row, it was a collection of all the moments that made more of a fan.

The first opening slaps. But it didn’t completely solidified me as a fan yet.

Katsura and the Shinsengumi are introduced in the fifth episode, which starts to get a little interesting.

What made me a fan was episode 31 where Gintoki becomes amnesiac and left the Odd Jobs business. It was funny until it got real serious and emotional at the end. That made me look forward to episode 32, which had a heartwarming ending where Gintoki is finally back to normal.

I loved the show from the first (well, the third technically) episode. The comedy hit for me from the very beginning (not saying that there aren’t unfunny or boring episodes or even whole arcs) and the serious arcs aka the plot was pretty much always peak.

What a throwback. Its been a while since Ive seen this show. I dont really have a particular moment that made me a fan honestly, but I do remember the show's first "serious arc". I think thats what made me truly appreciate Gintama-- the fact that its mainly lovable laughs and what not, but it can also get pretty "deep" at some points. Infact, the comedical episodes made me appreciate the characters even more-- to the point where they seemed like family. The serious arcs were even more intense since I cared so much about the characters. There's actually the shogun character who seems like a funny gag character at first but gains much more depth during the later parts of the series, and is also the "star" of the one of the greatest shonen arcs ever. Dont wanna spoil anything so ill just leave it at that.
man.

it was either as soon as i heard the first opening song for the first time (still my favourite gintama op), or when kagura got introduced because i was kinda iffy on gintoki at the start but she was always great, or during benizakura arc.

I liked it from the beginning but I guess memory arc is when I knew I was going to love this series. I still think episode 305 is one of the best episodes I’ve ever watched but it wouldn’t have as much impact without all the episodes that come before.

Took me a while but it was the scene where Kagura went ballistic

Gintama is so good when it's serious, a shame the story is 80% comedy. Not saying to get rid of the comedy, but have like a 60/40 split

Yep, the Shogun Assassination Arc is the single best arc ever.

Benizakura is what grabbed me initially. Up until that point, I had been enjoying it slowly, but wasn't yet totally convinced that it was as good as it was being hyped up to be.

The first OP had me hooked, but the first arc that made me really enjoy it was Kagura's introduction. Sold to me that they are actually going to do something with the story.

i feel like this is very common but mine would be benizakura arc. most of the time, i try to avoid long running shows so i wasn’t sure if i wanted to watch all episodes of gintama. however, after benizakura arc, i thought to myself, “wow i will definitely sit through the 300+ episodes this series has to offer!”

I really liked it even from the beginning but I seriously got hooked around the Yagyu arc, I still vividly remember that toilet paper episode xD. I think I added the show to my favorites after the double whammy of the Madao journal episode then the Kagura radio exercises episode, that shit almost made me cry bruh.

@KitsuFrost Honestly, the first serious arc (Benizakura) doesn't really make Gintama a masterpiece. It's the little things and culmination of all of it, especially Gintoki's character that makes this such a good show.

@ToG25thBaam Thank you for the answer. I always see so many people passionate about the series, and I've always thought why. So it's one of those series that gain some heat later
