So some anime have characters cut their hair to signify how they changed. What do you think of it. Why not go complete bald at that point.

I thought such plot points are really silly since in some series they even grow back their hair.

bro it's a trope lmao deal w it.

the shitsuren haircut is iconic and usually is a telltale of someone overcoming a broken heart. my own take is that it might have to do w tossing aside a part of what made oneself pretty to prove that they're trying to overcome that stage in their life. ofc it'll grow back, but so will the broken heart

That happens in Sukeban Deka. I highly recommend it.

Maybe in fear to be confused with becoming a monk.

Doubt they would just shave a protag's head for character development as it would harm the marketability/distinguishability of that character's image with merchandise, i.e. Posters, Action Figures, etc.
It worked for Saitama of OPM. But most popular bald characters are side-characters, i.e. Krillin, Tien Shin Han, some generic big muscular bald dudes, some cliche monk characters, some NPC psycho gangsters,... and that HxH/YuYu Hakusho crossover-ing bald ninja dude xD (Sorry. I did all I could to think of popular bald Anime characters xP)
And I just remembered: That kid from Osamu Tezuka's Three-Eyed One

because the protagonist might shave his head and hate it and then the series will have to go on hiatus until it grows back

I don't get why it growing back ruins it though. It's just like a refresh of their hair. Reborn like a bald baby.

it's the chicks doing it, so can't have that full shave look for ladies, maybe when the trends comes to the males hue hue

Honest opinion? Easy way out for overworked artists. Baldness ain't moving in the wind and perspective becomes much less important if a head's shaped like an egg.

As for character development: What's a bald head supposed to signal? Personally I think a change in the overall appearance (hair, clothing, posture) to show the character has broken with their past is a way stronger signal than a character randomly going ham with a razor.

I always thought shaving one's head was indicative of a heel turn

No I won't deal with it.. Give me a reason why I should be dealing with bald people.. Bald people are absolutely ridiculously essentially evildoers irl

Don't forget the mandatory sunglasses. Here too we have the the old people, hobos who can't afford it sadly, and priests have beards and not others. It's i think some american masculinity grift trend that has taken over in lots of countries maybe. One of my friends from tajikistan though too I remember complained about the beard thing but the karim benzema kind, says he sees it on everyone in his religious community. It's time to fight against the global beard takeover lol. It looks so awful and everyone then looks similar

during the edo period, samurai at the top of society would cut off their top knot as a way to step down from their position.  in a similar fashion, monks shave their head as a means of release from their worldly ego.  in media today it is used as visual symbolism to show a characters personal growth.  they are letting go of the past and starting fresh in a way.  whether they cut it or shave it is up to the person but both tend to mean the same thing.

I avoid watching LA Liga and serie a they all look and sound the same..

I guess they do it to avoid acne and folliculities it makes them look so old..

A Series of Unfortunate Events has both a man with a beard but no hair, and a woman with hair but no beard.
