I'm creating this topic and leaving it here to serve for future episodes as well.

I know it just started and it's been only a single episode so far, but as someone who highly despised the animation quality of the second and (especially) the third season, I refuse to watch this show anymore if it has the poor animation quality the previous seasons had. So I'll leave my question here, did the overall production of Overlord improved or it's pretty much the same stuff? I can't bear to see that terrible CGI again. Thanks in advance.

You mean how it looked, as in the art style, right? Its an improvement over the previous seasons.

Bad CGI is noticable on the undeads, I don't mind with it though.

Both artstyle and the fluidity/smoothness of the animation.

A lot shinier with brighter colors, sharper and thicker outlines. Can see the shadows on his ribs. More fluid too.

poor quality animation? lmfao I actually hate this idea, yes the CGI is bad but there isn't that much of it? the animation itself is fine, people are way too fucking stuck up about animation quality with what they watch. it should not be what defines the quality of an anime.

The problem with Overlord's later seasons was how it used the CGI. They used to represent some of the most intense scenes and they failed to build any type of excitement (it was actually unintentionally funny in a bad way). The animation was also very subpar (especially for Madhouse), the final battle in Season 2 I believe shows that really well. It's way too stiff and slow. It fails to sell the intensity, menace and power these characters have.

So yes, I believe animation can have an impact on what defines the quality of a show. One Punch Man is the best possible example of how animation can define the quality of a show depending on what you're going for. Overlord doesn't need stellar animation but it needs to shine in the battle sequences. I'm not a bitch for constant Akira levels of animation, but Overlord was of the rare cases it truly bothered me (especially for a show I really liked).

I understand it slightly changes your opinion, but it shouldnt be a defining feature unless its unbearable to watch, which overlord really isnt, theres MUCH worse CGI than overlord lol.

I'm aware there are far worse CGI works out there, but unfortunately, for Overlord, I consider it unbearable to watch (myself only in this case), hence the thread and the question.

I honestly don't mind the CGI, it doesn't take away from the storyline, plot, etc. I think it's unique, and it's still better than some of the older CGI styles I've seen.

I’m never too strict on standards so I was pretty happy with the animation in episode 1.
