i've been watching anime since young bc that's what they have on tv in my country, so i don't really remember which one was the first.

here's a list of the anime i used to watch casually on tv: doraemon, atashin'chi, chibi maruko chan, kodocha, one piece, onegai my melody, kochikame, nartuo, bleach, shugo chara, mirmo, toradora, candy candy, etc. (there were a lot i cant recall all of them)

and then kuroko no basuke became a big thing in my country but they didn't air it on tv, so i started using streaming services to watch the animes i was interested in. i would say this is probably the period where i actually really got into anime.

I watched some series on TV when I was a kid, like Pokemon, Doraemon, Atashin'chi, Kochikame, etc.

And I started watching a lot more anime in high school after being recommended by one of my classmates.

Basically, because of my brother. All the time he kept telling me "watch Shingeki", "watch Shingeki", "watch Shingeki", "watch Shingeki", until I finally saw it and here I am, answering in "Anime discussion" in MAL hahaha...

I was going through IMDB top 200 list and saw Attack on Titan. Seemed pretty cool and there was a lot of hype around at that time so I watched it. It was great so I kept watching and here I am now.

Two origin stories.

ORIGIN #1: It was 1980 and my father and I would sit down to watch the FORCE FIVE show that Jim Terry Productions did of several anime from Japan from the 1970s. They were Spaceketeers (Starzingers), Starvengers (Gettar Robo G), Grandizer (UFO Robo Grendizer), GAIKING, Dangaurd Ace
[ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Force_Five ] with my favorite being GRENDIZER (surprise, surprise ---my screen name). I was two and had no idea that it was from Japan, but loved it. And it was... well... Japanimation/Anime.

ORIGIN #2: Sept 1991 on the way to get rolled into a local street gang, a few friends of mine asked me to join them to watch some community access channel show called "ANIME REVIEW" that aired for 1 hour time slots on Channel 20 here in SATX. They kept going on and on about awesome cartoons from Japan that was "Like ROBOTECH" which I had seen but had no idea it was from Japan at that time. I was mainly going to join the gang to piss off my dad at that time (age 13) ---LONG STORY, so figured what the Hell. Saw First 30 minutes of Hokuto no Ken / Fist of the North Star: The Movie and then a few eps of GUNDAM 0083: Stardust Memory on a VHS tape that my friend Dan had previously recorded off the show. I never did get to the gang initiation. Few days later I saw Episode #2 of Bubblegum Crisis and Supernatural Beast City (Wicked City) fan sub. That was it. I was hooked.

2005-2007 was watching Naruto, Shaman King, Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh, Duel masters(or some other card game) etc. on TV but it was polish dubbed and because of it and of not knowing at that age that is dubbed anime, I thought back than that those titles were just simply polish cartoons.

So I don't count them as first anime (cause I didn't know what anime is back than).

The first anime, when I knew it is anime and I watched with subs was Bleach at 2008, one of my classmates, my current buddy, recommended me someday to watch it and he said where I can find it online with polish subtitles, so I've watched it and as you might notice I loved it and later after finishing Bleach at 2012 I felt empty so I went to discover more anime title and more x).

My bros used to watch Slam Dunk and One Piece on the TV while my stupid ass self was enthralled by it. I mean without them, I never would've tried Slam Dunk in the first place.

I've seen stuff like Pokemon, Doraemon, etc at young age and just grew up to find more on Netflix and then just started searching for more on Hulu during 2020 before the pandemic. My first anime I finished you could say would be Assassination Classroom but I also seen Little witch academia which is a ONA.

Started with Samurai X when I was four not knowing it was actually anime ...they had it dubbed. I don't remember much about it (I might give it a rewatch soon). Then pokemon, Doraemon, Zatch bell, shin chan- these are common for most of us. Keeping these aside, I bought a DVD for death note and FMAB back in 2015 and binged them probably in a week and got obsessed with them.

I watched a few anime, but for most of my life I considered most of it childish and juvenile. But around late 2019 I got burned out on live action movies and TV, and that's around the time I watched Violet Evergarden and Dorohedoro on Netflix, and had my mind expanded and my third eye opened.

It took a while to fully get into it, but on a whim I made a New Year's Resolution at the beginning of 2021 to get into anime, because I needed a hobby/depression balm, and I ended up sticking with it. It also helped seeing a couple of what I now considered all-time favorites like Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, A Place Further than the Universe, and Fruits Basket. I was stupid and didn't realize how much anime is out there with rich nuanced characters and beautiful aesthetics.

I got into anime when my older brother started watching Bleach and Fullmetal Alchemist on random cable channels. A long time after Crunchyroll started booming and it was an app on the smart tv I had at my old house and at the time Sword Art Online was huge and I watched it and enjoyed it, much to my present disappointment. I watched Attack on Titan when there were only around 2 episodes out on stream. I really miss that time period where everything was so new and fresh.

I was pretty into American cartoons as a kid (Batman, Turtles, Exosquad). An older sibling came back from college and brought Macross 2, Lodoss, and others and they kicked ass.
Fell out of anime for a long time and am now going through what I missed out on.

I saw my first anime by pure chance. About 2003, I was really young and was watching Cartoon Network like i always did. I fell asleep and saw Inuyasha in the middle of the night. I really enjoyed it, i also saw GITS: SAC the same night.

A cousin introduced me to Yugioh later that year and that's when my obsession started, it was my favorite anime and made me want to see more. I started watching it whenever i could, i saw DBZ, Naruto, Pokemon, pretty much all the common shonen.

In 2016, i got a new tv provider. The Anime Network, i started watching a ton of shows on it. Strawberry Marshmallow, Azumanga Daioh, Bakuon, High school of the dead, Girls und Panzer. That's pretty much my transitional point, i started watching everything i could.
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

"How did you get into anime?"

Stumbled upon Kagaku Kyuujo-tai TechnoVoyager aka Thunderbirds 2086 on TV. Got addicted to the combination of sci-fi and adventure...and I was hungry for more...and it took me a decade to find and watch my next sci-fi anime - Uchuusen Sagittarius...

"What was your first anime?"

Nagagutsu wo Haita Neko (I think it came in my country around 10 years after it's release in Japan) and I was 5 so only thought to myself "That was somehow different".

It all started with my local Pokemon card dealer. He gave me a taste and next thing I know I was so far gone I was ready to stab a bitch in the playground for some rare holographic cards. But it wasnt enough. Soon I moved on to some harder stuff, Yu-Gi-Oh. And from there I just went deeper and deeper into the endless swirling vortex that is Japanese media. Damn you, Yu-Gi-Oh for showing me Dark Magician Girl...

it was march 2013 i was playing a game called elsword. way back then if you want to sell some items you have to make a stall and wait for players to go to your stall and buy your items, so it takes hours to do that and you leaving the stall means you're not selling. so to past the time while waiting for costumers i tried anime. i was a huge anime hater before but due to boredom i was willing to give it a shot. my very first anime is Baka & Test - Summon the Beast. i loved every moment of that show and i decided to watch more animes. now 9 years later i consider it as one of my main hobbies
