I always wondered, what does "best girl" mean? Like, "waifu"? Or just best female character?
Futabe seems to have a pretty diverse personality. We see her exhibit all the emotions on the spectrum. She may be childish, but I feel like you could have an interesting conversation with her.
Sakurai's a little flat. Which is the most ironic thing I could possibly say given her chest. But her personality is pretty flat. And she's just wayyy too perfect. It kind of breaks the immersion.
Natsumi reminds me of my old babysitter from years ago. I'd have to pick her due to her interactions with the little brother. Reminds me of my childhood.
And Mona. Dearest Mona. I actually picked her in the poll, just for the memes.
It's pretty crazy how the intended MC, focal point, and protagonist came in last place. Like, she got the least votes, paling quite a bit compared to literally Mona, the meme character. Kind of a shame, but I get it. I was never a fan of that trope/archetype in anime -- the character crafted to be cute/childish and bratty at times. I don't find it appealing and I think it's a risk making that the center character of the show. But Futabe actually grew on me throughout the series for some reason. And, again, I think she's leaps and bounds better than Sakurai, although I acknowledge I'm vastly in the minority. I was also never a fan of the "perfect" anime girls who have literally no flaws. Not that anime girls have to be realistic, but if it's lacking too much in realism then there's less immersion to be had. The whole point of Sakurai's character is just to have a big chest, get hit on or gushed over by 95% of the males she encounters, and fall in love with the self-insert character, solely because he doesn't act like an animal around her. I liked that Futabe, Natsumi, and Mona could have their comedic moments -- but Sakurai's only purpose is to be ogled over by the characters and the viewer. I'm not even a stark feminist or anything, I'm just saying, her character's boring.
Inserting myself in the show, I'm shocked to say that I'd turn all the female characters down to talk to Takeda. While he's also a bit too perfect, I don't think he's a flat character. He actually seems "fun" I guess. |
