| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- The Faceless Robot. Feels weird to go back to a quick one-off after all, and one without a Tezuka's appearance at the beginning, makes me bring back my own theory that maybe he doesn't care about the stories he doesn't introduce in this collection. I liked this one okay though, mostly because Damdam's design is great and he was an entertaining figure with how he went about trying to return his head. At first I thought the ending with his head killing him was a bit cruel but then I remembered he killed a bunch of robots for the head so it's kind of karmic retribution, though as Astro mentions at the end, it's not his fault his head was built with so much deadly power, so the death lands more tragically than cathartic. Also, was Kusai featured in this collection beforehand. It's entirely possible I just forgot about him if he was, but as far as I recall this was his first appearance. I know the chapters are jumbled up so he would've appeared early in the story, I find it odd that they wouldn't compile the chapters in an order to make his first appearance not have him mention a lengthy history with Astro Boy. Not a big problem though, especially if this is just my memory being dumb. Also, loved when Astro was checking robot factories and one of them was in the process of hanging himself. Nothing like these casual suicide jokes to put a smile on my face. |
