(TLDR, I just want to go back to when I didn't have a life, and could binge a shit ton of anime again)

For me, in the summer of 2018, before my Sophmore year in high school, I didn't have anywhere to go during the summer. I had no friends or job. That summer I ended up binging a shit ton of anime. Binge like 20 or more in only a few months. Vrv was my life. Then during summer 2019, I had a job and was working 5 days a week for it and volunteering one. I wasn't watching anime then. Now flip to 2019-2020 school year. I was a junior and I was doing a shit ton of schoolwork. I learned to get my shit together and stop procrastinating. I only was watching season 4 of MHA after I got my work done for the week, and I was watching it as it was airing one week behind. When COVID-19 happen, my general ed courses were canceled, but duel credit and online community college was still going on. Then I had two summer courses which are over now as of July 3rd, but I am still working 5 days a week. I also need to start working on scholarships, a GSA club, applying for evening classes and then applying for my dream college for Spring 2021. I ain't have the time to binge-watch anime anymore, and I am finding myself not being the most motivated to watch anime. I'm satisfied with my life now. It is busier, but compared to 2018, I actually have a purpose and I feel like I am accomplishing something. However, at the same time, I wish for a week to just watch anime. Nothing more. No work to worry about, no school to worry about. Just anime. But I doubt that will ever happen again. For me, I want a chance to go back to the days were I just watch anime without a care in the world without feeling shitty about being unproductive in life. That the time in my life of an anime fan that I want to go back to.

I don't have anything special that occurred during the last year and a half of watching anime adamantly. There are a few shows that I want to experience for the first time again, but other than that, I'm happy with just things remaining the same and to just continue watching anime and reading manga & novels

I had a similar experience to you. In summer 2019 my situation was almost the exact same. Just watching anime, not a care in the world, I was working, but only 2-3 days a week so I still had a ton of time.

Although that being said, that still woudln't be the time I'd want to go back to. Id have to go back to March 2019, when I was just getting into anime and I started watching Hunter x Hunter. I binged that entire show in about 3 weeks. In the first 3 days I had seen 35 episodes of HxH. Not only was it a calm time in my life, I was literally obsessed with anime so much that I could be entertained non stop. Nowadays I can still binge 8-10 episodes a day, but Ill have to go out of my way to do it. Typically Ill still watch at least 3 episodes a day, but it just isnt the same.

Anime “career” sounds weird to me but I’ll roll with it.

I’d say right now is definitely my peak, and I’m sure in the future I’d do anything to repeat this phase.
I’ve started to watch/read things that I’m purely interested in without having to worry whether it’ll be a waste of time or not. I used to spend more time researching rather than actually watching/reading. And since I finally made a mal account, I started reading more manga and I’m sort of in a high stage where I just try to gulp down everything I see, no matter how bad they may be.

Isn’t it amazing how much time you can waste watching anime when you’re basically a neet?

Idk if "career" is an appropiate word but anyways.

TLDR; I now have problems finding anime that suit my tastes and would like to go back when I was new to anime

I often find myself scrolling on MAL forums or other places for hours to find something to watch (and hey, most of the times, it turns out to be boring). I'd like to go back to those times when i was kind of new to anime and didn't really know much about anime other than mainstream shows (SnK, SAO, etc). I could watch anything without caring if it was good or bad, and most of the times I would be surprised by the great amount of anime that I didn't think would turn out to be so good.
Now don't get me wrong, I haven't watched as many shows as some members of this community, but I kind of refined my tastes and lately I'm more inclined towards psychological shows, or uncommon storytelling such as monogatari series. While I do enjoy anime, I can't really find one that stays on my mind for longer than a day after i finish it, unlike before lol.

I do kinda want to repeat the time I discovered Akiyuki Shinbo/Shaft for the first time because watching most of his stuff, I was sixteen and had a smaller attention span,so I feel like I would get more out of his works if I payed more attention.

the period between january-november 2017, I had a cool job and I worked in my home town where I lived with my parents. It was a fun period, I remember returning from work and heading straight into watching anime, I remember that I watched some great series back then: Re:Creators, Sakurada, Fune wo Amu, Guilty Crown. And it was the first year that I had internet to my disposal (before that I didn't have access to internet at home, weird I know). It was also the year my father retired, so we kinda partied a lot, I bought some bottles of whiskey for him from time to time and we drank together
