I am in my late 20s. I used to watch anime 10 years or so ago. I mostly watched shoujo romance comedy and shoujo romance. I want to get back into anime and manga as a hobby or pastime but I have grown up so what I liked back then doesn't appeal to me anymore. So, stuff based on my watched anime list, doesn't exactly work.

Technically, I should look for josei titles. But I feel josei is a small minority in the world of Japanese animation and comic books. I have tried a few but they didn't appeal to me.

I like romance, rom com. And I like happy endings. But I am open to any genre if the anime is good, interesting, well made, has good characters.

I don't like rapey, non consensual stuff.

I have read this josei manga called hapi Mari. It had high reviews and ratings. But I was disappointed.

I saw sekaiichi Hatskoi. I hated the rapey, violent stuff being sold as romance and a 100 other things. But I skimmed through that stuff to see the inner workings of the manga industry. The characters were office goers and setting was working class adults, so that was relatable.

I wonder if there are any good titles out there for me. If there are, please direct me to it.

Thank you.

It's much more difficult to make recommendations if your list is private. Then we're shooting in the dark to recommend shows that you might or might not have already seen.

That said, how about two workplace comedies with female leads:
Aggretsuko
Hataraki Man

Three fantasy stories with female leads
Seirei no Moribito
Juuni Kokuki
Kemono no Sou-ja Erin

Various shows with female leads; mostly josei/seinen
Nodame Cantabile
Chihayafuru
Sakura Quest
Shirobako
Saiunkoku Monogatari
Shion no Ou
Nijuu Mensou no Musume
Planetes
Noein
Princess Principal

Seinen/josei/ainime-original
Sennen Joyou (film)
Miss Hokusaki (film)
3-gatsu no Lion
Monster
NHK ni Youkoso!
Bartender
Baccano!
Oh! Edo Rocket
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica (actual title is Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
Usagi Drop
Boku dake ga Inai Machi
Golden Kamuy
Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryouko
Sora yori mo Tooi Basho

Seconding Aggretsuko and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

Adding two more otaku-culture centered romcoms:

Net-juu no susume
Wotakoi

If you haven't seen those two movies yet:

Your Name
A Silent Voice

Maybe also:

Garden of Words
Flavours of Youth

General recs I always throw around:

Steins;Gate
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Champloo
Violet Evergarden
Your Lie in April
Paranoia Agent

Fate Series: Recommended watch order: Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, Heaven's Feel, Fate/zero

Personal favourite: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya + The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

For ongoing manga, my Highschool romance fluff/romcom recs to lift the mood are:

Komi-san wa, komyushou desu
Tomo-chan wa onnanoko!
Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san
Yancha Gal no Anjou-san

I'm in your age group, so I hope some of them will strike your fancy.

Romances with adult characters:
Library Wars
Spice & Wolf
Nodame Cantabile (more college aged; the male MCs pretty rude to the FeMC for a decent chunk of the series though)
Planetes (the anime's more of a comedy for the first half at least if you'd rather watch that, but I wasn't as much of a fan of what it did with the romance)
Howl's Moving Castle
Kobato.
Eden of the East (mild romance; college aged protagonists)
Cheese in the Trap (college aged MCs; the male lead is flawed in ways you might not like, though not in a rapey way at least, but it's treated as something he needs to work on for the relationship to work instead of romanticized)
Emma
Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan (definitely a downer though)

Series with a focus on the anime/manga industry:
Shirobako
Kakukaku Shikajika
A Drifting Life (more of a serious biography than the other two)

Other funny or heartwarming series with adult protagonists:
Barakamon
Tiger & Bunny
She and Her Cat: Everything Flows
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid (one-sided romance/romantic subtext; the way it handles some secondary characters might be a little... off-putting though)
Tokyo Godfathers
My Girl

Other romances or comedies with the characters still in school:
Silver Spoon
Nozaki-kun
Time of Eve
NG Life
Fruits Basket
Tamen De Gushi
Kaguya-sama

Plus some other shoujo series I've liked a lot:
Rose of Versailles (tragic ending though)
Princess Tutu
Kaleido Star

I know what you mean, that's exactly what happened when I started to get back into anime a few years ago. It might take some time to find the stuff you really like but theres a lot more anime aimed at adults than there first seems. I'll give it a shot though.

Aggretsuko is great and has gained a reputation for having an older fanbase. It's extremely relatable and becomes more romance/relationship driven as it goes on.

Wolf children is not a romance but I still really think you should give it a watch, it's a beautiful movie that I think you might like.

Have you ever seen cowboy bebop? It's definitely not a romance but if you're in the mood for something grittier it has an excellent adult cast with complex relationships.

I agree that madoka magica is a great option as well.

I've also been watching the lovers suicide by rakugo lately and its easily one of the best adult oriented dramas I've seen in anime. Romance is not the most important element but its definitely there. Fair warning first episode is a little slow.

I think these would be a good place to start. They're all really high quality and accessible, and if you like any of these people will have a much easier time recommending you stuff.
