Hey, I'm looking for old anime to watch. Any genre will do, although I would appreciate it if the anime is a bit more on the obscure side so things like LotGH or Rose of Versailles can be ruled out since I already know their existence and the positive things surrounding those shows. Appreciate all the recs I get!

It's hard to know what you'd consider obscure since to most people everything from the 70s and 80s is gonna be obscure. I guess I can dismiss anything Gundam, Macross, Lupin III or Urusei Yatsura but beyond that I'll just have to guess.

Does Ie Naki Ko or Akage no Anne or Haha wo Tazunete Sanzenri count? Ashita no Joe probably doesn't, but what about Takarajima or Space Cobra or Onii-sama e...? Do you know about Mirai Shounen Conan or Ginga Nagareboshi Gin? What about movies like Cleopatra or OVAs like Gosenzosama Banbanzai? Master Keaton or Key the Metal Idol?

I'm just gonna put all of those out there for now in the hopes that they are obscure enough for you. Once I know if you're into movies and OVAs I could come up with a lot more recs in those areas but with series it's hard to find a lot that is popular enough to be available subbed while still counting as obscure for people who know these decades already.

I probably regret this post by now.

Going with MY french vision of obscurity (french TV fed me with jap.animation my whole childhood so..)

70s:
Ace wo Nerae, the movie. Many people know this title and advertise the 70s show (pretty good) or the second TV adaptation leading to the OAVs finale. But the movie is almost always dismissed. Why? Because today's people can't appreciate the concept of a movie's limited duration, that's a big contradiction to their big golden "character development".

Farewell, Yamato - Love Warriors. The big theatrical finale of the Yamato series. Rapidly disposed in favour of a TV remake a month later, when the movie is an excellent melodramatic finale for the saga, following an interesting space thriller with its problems (the first TV series).

Among the numerous world litterature adaptations, Twelve Months is a nice tale if you doi'nt know it yet.

Tatsu no Ko Tarô is a good folklore adventure movie.

Pretty sure Horus is worldwide famous.
