| If successfully dealing damage on Wamuu means getting the privilege to get killed by his very rare super finishing move, I'd rather pass on the opportunity to die if possible. But it does sound tempting if it also means dying a flashy death worthy of something straight up from Gurren Lagann~ Joseph not only managed to survive repeated onslaughts of his Divine Sandstorm, he also fooled one of the Ultimate Lifeforms so many times that he diverted his attention from Speedwagon and Caesar so they could escape. Escaping from someone right in front of you would be more difficult though. |

| This was one of my favorite chapters in Jojo’s! The art and writing had me so engaged.. So many emotions. Firstly, Joseph pummeling Wham before dealing with his bleeding out wrist is hilarious and shows his priorities, but Wham was letting himself be hit as punishment for taking such a blow and letting his guard down. For hitting him he decided to kill Joseph with honor, the Holy Sandstorm, where both his arms twist like tornados creating mass amounts of damage shown with some amazing full page moments of Joseph dodging and jumping as we saw the column he dove behind shatter. The page of the air flow destroying him in mid air and him smashing on the ground leading to Wham walking past him was so dynamic. Wham feels embarrassed so he has to kill the weakened Caesar and Speedwagon, his image as a warrior has been tarnished. Somehow after this insanely cool and tense moment we had the funniest two pages I’ve read in Jojo’s so far. Joseph slowly getting up and then playing dead every time Wham looks back at him. Then we get next level and have the narrator play in to it by calling him pathetic and questioning his qualifications of being the hero of the manga. I was laughing hysterically and it was such a tone shift, and I wasn’t sure what Joseph’s plan was but I knew it wasn’t to leave his family behind. Despite Caesar feeling disgusted in his apparent actions, and despite Joseph not knowing the details of his whole bloodline too well, HE FREAKING CARES ABOUT THE FAMILY HE HAS ABOVE ALL ELSE! So, he lets Wham know he’s escaping to enrage him and basically makes a sucide plan to drive Wham away on a minecart. Caesar and Joseph got to see the admirable sides of each other tonight, and even Wham went from disgust to a soft smile, perhaps indicating even more respect as a warrior. Guts, wits, and selflessness are all there in Jojo. But Joseph has no clackers nor steady breathing for hamon. To my knowledge he should be bleeding out and he’s deeply injured. Is Wham going to let him live to see how far he can go? I could imagine that, after all, Joseph is untrained and yet he’s the first human to land a face hit on Wham and he’s left a mark with his heroism. The other possibility is Joseph going absolutely next level and doing something unheard of. Pillar Men ain’t disappointed yet! |
