Anybody know of any games that teach you Japanese.
Preferably on PC.

Not just games that are easy to play in Japanese. But games like My Japanese Coach on the DS.

Thanks.

There's a game on Steam called, "Learn Japanese To Survive! Hiragana Battle". It's a pretty simply RPG-maker game which teaches you the basics of Hiragana

There's another game called, "Influent" which teaches basic vocabulary and pronunciation.

To be blunt though, if you're planning to learn Japanese it's better to take a class or use other online resources.

/r/LearnJapanese is a great sub-reddit that provides a ton of resources for learning Japanese and plenty of helpful users willing to answer questions. Most games like these are very simple and teach you the fundamentals probably two to three times longer than average. Keep in mind, Japanese uses Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji so just learning Hiragana isn't a lot. The Kanji is the tough part since you need to be able to distinguish at least around 2,000 Kanji characters for basic day to day reading (from what I recall). If you plan to really learn the language, games are only going to take you so far.

That's just my two cents though. When I took an interest in Japanese I had the idea to use entertainment to help the learning process, but quickly realized taking classes was the best way.

1. Learn basic Japanese
2. Play Japanese games

Games aren't going to help you with step 1, you have to put some effort in before having fun.

I have some decent learning material. As well as the Mina no Nihongo set. But no body else is interested in learning. So I was looking for the games as a practicing medium, more than an actual study tool. Thanks for the posts though.

There is that free Knuckles game for learning some of the basic stuff.

I wouldn't bother learning Kanji unless you have years on your hands. Better to learn spoken japanese, and for that you could try actual programs for learning, not games.
